    I lol'd.

Me too I'm sure a mod is going to edit that lol

I'd like to think by now that OzBargainers that do fly AirAsia would be AirAsia Big members by now lol

        • I haven't flown air Asia for years after being tired of the boring lcct stop over not sure if that has changed?

        • +1

          @DaTa:

LCCT terminal is now FAR better than than KLIA1. Other than lounge access as a FF in KLIA1, I would much prefer the restaurants and shops in LCCT. In addition the train to the city is a good option for solo travelers (2 or more might as well Grab/Uber was sold to Grab).

You can also travel between terminals via the train (something like $2 AUD?)

        • @hypie:
Yeah I was in klia last month I didn't think it was that great of an airport anymore, I remember ten years ago it was said to be one of the best, but then again I revisited some airports after a few years say BKK airport and they are tired and worn out now, big immigration lines etc , I think Changi is a fantastic airport still.

I was just about to type this then realised you beat me to it. Well done!

      Damn, modded lol

    • air asia doing great deals to Auckland from Gold Coast. $196 return including taxes for adults & $136 for kids. Read somewhere that the government taxes alone are $180 for an adult, so airline getting $16 for something like 7 hours flying. Bag & meal $40 extra each way.

Currently staying 1/2 way between Brisbane & Cool airports & 11am out of Cool means don't have to get up a 3am.

Can travel very light & we might do 3 times $40 for 5 of us.

Looking at 10 to 17 August. This encompasses the ekka public holiday in Brisbane, which usually means busy, as many families go skiing that week, as kids don't seem to have much on the other 3 or 4 days a week, such as sports days.

Thinking of going skiing at Whakapapa & Turoa. It's about 4 hours drive from Auckland. Found a cheap Subaru Liberty wagon (apparently imported used into NZ called a Legacy). Might be a few years old but $299 for a week including insurance & chain hire & bonus $150 worth of gloves, who cares. Found the deal on gumtree of all places.

Currently looking at accommodation & lift ticket costs & how to do these the cheapest way.

  • Dam it I just woke up, clicked on the link and wondered why the book now link wasn’t working

  • +2

Let's hope they have a couple options over the Xmas break… I hate having to take 8 days of annual leave and not being able to travel because of the inflated flight costs.

    • also interested in this, did u find anything?

    • +2

Everyone thinks the same hence the price is inflated.

    • +1

Usually this is the best time airliners make their money departing Australia..so..probably not.
Coming back is cheap though in early January, as the whole Xmas thing is "just another public holiday" in that region, if recognised.

    • +1

Good luck with that. They don't need to put sale fares on over Christmas because that's when most people travel anyway.

  • July 2019 NSW school holidays.

    SYD-KUL return.

    5/7/2019 Friday night flight
    21/7/2019 Sunday day flight
No luggage, 3 meals, hotseat(exit door) on night flight. $390.42

    • Nice

  • Did a comparison GC-HKT (Phuket) cheapest Xmas time dates: ie 25th or 26th Dec depart
AA (sale) fare @ $1025 return is $120 @ cheaper than Scoot (non-sale) fare including full add-ons

Sometimes Expedia Flight & Hotel packages work out cheaper during a sale period or if using the Expedia.com.sg site.

For people considering to get mel-kl. Remember AirAsia flights will be from Avalon airport starting end of the year.

    • didn't know that.. that's sick.

    • Good pickup - article confirming this from the ABC is HERE

Great for inbound tourism (Geelong, Great Ocean Road etc) but for outbound - unless you live close to the airport, it's yet another reason to hesitate and book with another carrier.

    • How will we know if we're booking a flight leaving Tullamarine or Avalon? Avalon would be very far for me…

      • @xtngo: All AA flights will be departing from Avalon starting end of the year.

        • +1

Do they have an exact date? When do they plan to announce this? It's almost June already :S

  • +2

Is this Tony Fernandes trying to redeem himself?

You're Malaysian I'm guessing. Quite a number are boycotting the airline because of his involvement in their recent election.

    • OMG ! How much does it cost to paint a plane? Talk about obsequious behaviour.

      • At the end of the day, businesses will always be in support of the government of the day in hope of getting through red tape.
That's why they should never associate themselves with one party or another and stay neutral.

      • It wasn't just painting the plane and changing the uniform colors of all staff on board, it was also a video message he released 2 days before the election basically saying choosing the then opposition would be bad for the country.

  • Warning that these guys can be shockingly bad. Had a family member have to pay another $200-300 because AirAsia stuffed up their reservation, not them. Check-in times can be ridiculously early, so read all their information carefully.

  • What **FREE SEATS **, so the rest come in standing ??..
Makes me nostalgic about my standing days on bus.

  • +2

Another warning that they have changed my flight schedule unexpectedly and send an email. If you miss their notification among a bunch of advertisement, You will be in deep shit. I would believe Your reservation is not guaranteed until you get on the flight.

    • +1

Correct, but they're pretty lenient with what you can do if it affects you - even allowing you change your flight date to +/- 6 months from original date of travel. I've had full fare carriers change my flight time by 12 hours without giving me alternate options; and to top it off, they changed me from a non-stop service to one that stopped over in Cairns - I'm looking at you Cathay Pacific.

    • I flew with them recently and am really happy with the service i received for the money I paid. They changed the flight by 1 hour (brought forward). they sent me emails and even called me to confirm. Allowed free cancellation or re-book without any additional cost.

It was a flight from SYD-KUL and it was full -only 2 seats were left. I was impressed.

  • The website now shows a monthly price calendar after you search a specific date (for one way anyway - not sure for return searches) which is very handy. I snared Bangkok to Sydney ~$163. Pretty good!

  • -1

Is this deal active right now or is it active from midnight? Do I need promo code for booking?
Any suggestions on the cheapest return flight dates from syd to kul?

    • +3

Gosh the start dates are in the title and description

      • Hi, I did see the dates, but do not get that price when selecting the dates. I get $199 single route. Not sure if I am missing something.

    • Log in. Search on a day in your desired month. You will then get a price calendar with green squares in your next screen. Move mouse over the green squares for prices. The darker the green the cheaper the price. seats go quick.

Almost forgot booked 4 more trips Perth - bali $172 return
And the WA government is subsidising Broome at 400 return to stop people going to Bali as if that is going to work !!!

    • +1

Broome is ridiculously expensive and boring. I'd only go as a end or start point for the gibb river road.

  • Not only available via app. Available on their web site now (Sunday)

  • Here is the link to see the pricing for each route:
    www.airasia.com/au/en/promotion.page

Edit: this currently seems to only show the sale prices that finish today (even if you are logged in).
Perhaps they will update this tomorrow.

    • Why does that page have different travel period to this deal? Is it different sale?

      • The new Mega sale doesn't start until tomorrow unless you are a member, so I suspect they will update this link tomorrow.

        • Yep - link is updated with all the airfares now.

        • @Gaz1:

Thanks. Are the prices listed on that page for one-way fares?

        • @tranter:
Yes, they are one way including taxes but without luggage, seat selection, food, etc.

  • Just became an AirAsia member today. Installed app on my mobile. Booking for 4 Adults and 1 child costs about $4k. Melbourne to Penang 20/12/18 returning Penang to Melbourne 19/01/19. Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong.

Did a Google and found this URL:

    https://malaysiafreebies.com/airasia-free-seats/

Seems flights from KL are charged fuel only. Not sure if this included flights from Australia to SE Asia.

    • +1

Your dates are not promo friendly.

    • +1

Any dates around xmas time are nearly always excluded from sales unfortunately.

  • Can someone explain to me how this Big Loyalty APp works? SO i can go Melb to Kuala Lumper return - its 20,303 points there and 20,303 points coming back. My Airfare is reported to be $92 AUD going there and $45 return…I currently only have 1059 points to redeem. Does this mean i only pay $137 in total (plus card fees?)

  • Bought a return trip from Syd -> Penang, Malaysia for 357$! Still deciding whether i should add check-in luggages.

Anyways, thanks for the deal OP!

Georgetown is one of my fav places.

The food, the street art, architecture, the mix of cultures….

Even the tourists are bearable with a great mix; backpackers, middle age Englishmen taking photos of the buildings (usually with their wives), and Australians and others checking out the bar photos for their grandfathers who were stationed there, cruise ship daytrippers etc.

      Have a blast!

  • I found some free seats (Zero points seats) using their Big Points App. But you still have to pay their hefty fees and charges. Worked out at about $A84 Bangkok to Phnom Penh RETURN. No food, no bag, no seat.

  • +1

Just be wary with this airline. I used to be a huge advocate for AirAsia, I flew with them many times without issues. That said, on a recent trip to Thailand they canceled the second leg of my return journey with no explanation. Just said the flight was full and that my I am not entited to a refund or a seat on a replacement flight. They made me buy a new ticket at full price, which meant waiting for 12 hours in the airport and forking out $850 extra because they're crazy expensive if you buy them on the spot. They refused to let me speak to a manager and just said any complaints must be made using their complaints form, I sent one out and sure enough they denied any responsibility and refused to refund me.

    (profanity) AirAsia.

  • Another warning, you check-in online and they do not seat your party together, even if on the same booking. Now with the move to Avalon, this will be my last flight with these scoundrels.

    • Went to AAX service desk, and thankfully they fixed it for us. One up for Aussie ground crew, shame on Tony Fernandes for his unscrupulous tactics! It's disgusting how you treat a long time regular customer.

    • That's the Cut-price airline model. Pay extra for food and guaranteed seat allocation. If they didn't charge for these then overall prices would be higher. However often the seats are allocated sequentially and when I do online check in, myself, and then immediately a mate on a separate booking, we usually get them sequentially. May be across the aisle, or one may be at the end of 1 row, and the other at the start of the next row. Some full service airlines are now charging for seat selection too.
But I agree AirAsia are nowhere near perfect.
One positive is that they refund fees and taxes if you cancel/fail to take the flight. MAS, for example, give you nothing back (ie they pocket the fees and taxes that they don't even have to pay because you did not fly).
