Gosh with $4k you can't just buy a new one?

  • The difference between this one and non refurb is 1k, if the warranty is the same, just go for the refurb, you are also dealing directly with sony instead of a reseller, you are protected by the consumer guarantee also. As long as you know your rights i doubt you will have a problem.

  • dunno re refurbished. I got mine from JB's price matched against a new one from eBay good guys plus eBay site wide discount code.

However, regarding acoustic surface, which most reviewers love and feel is wonderful; Yes it is good- far better than tiny built in speakers. In my opinion however, it does not obviate the need for a proper receiver. Even coming from a crappy 2.0 yamaha system with bookshelf speakers, I want a receiver to get better sound. it is too flat, not enough base, despite the so called sub on the back of it. I;d bought this partly because i thought it would save me the $$ on a receiver. For me, that is not the case.

Otherwise it is an epic TV

  • have bought 2 items from sony australia refurbished, both work well and looked like new when received. one of them just a few weeks ago, when sony had a sale via ebay.com.au, and i bought a 40-in tv, this one https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/televisions/W660E-W665E-… …all is good for now, and it does comes with a regular sony warranty.

  • I bought a TV from the eBay store in February during an eBay sale. The TV I got had a slightly damaged boxed but was unopened. I'm very happy with it. The customer service for the eBay store got bad reviews in the comments of the deal. Hopefully, I will never have to deal with them.
