Best Co-Op PC Games (Family) Recommendation

Hi,

Looking for casual co-op PC game recommendations to play with the mrs. We've happily played Sid Meier Civ for many years, but had enough. We have 5th gen i5 laptops.

  1. Fun challenging gameplay more than anything else.
  2. Nothing gross / gruesome
  3. Real time okay, but not too intense.
  4. I rather not first person combat games - I get dizzy (I know).

Open to all free / paid options.
Asking for PC because I don't have anything else.

Many thanks.

    Overcooked

    • The wife isn't a gamer by any stretch, but ever since I bought this, she's been asking to play it with the whole family every chance she gets.

    • I tried doing overcook in real life. P2, P3 and P4 seem to have broken controllers and aren't moving.

    Worms.

Plenty of classic games on emulators.
If you have powerful enough laptp you can even emulate Wii or Wii U games which have some great family co-op games.

I might be able to steal a Wii from my brother. We enjoyed Mario on Wii very much. Please let me know if you have Wii recommendations. tks

        My Favourites are:
Mario Kart, Kirby's Adventure, Super Smash, Donkey Kong Country Returns.
Even Wii Sport and Wii Play are great fun for a while.
Theres also Super Mario Bros. Wii.

        • thanks !

    or:

humble bundle having a multiplayer bundle right now, look at the $1 tier, its very good value for money.

    Dark Souls.

Blur - classic racing game with combat can be played on LAN. It's free.

    • +1

Where is Blur available legally for free?

      • I don't think they sell it anymore. It's available on the internet illegally.

  • +1

Town Of Salem. It's online and really engaging. Try it!

    1) Jackbox Party Packs
    2) Keep Talking and nobody explodes
    3) Towerfall ascension

All these games can be played on 1 machine, but really should be played with more than 2 people

  • +2

    Portal 2

    1. Don't Starve Together
    2. Keep Talking & Nobody Explodes
    3. Portal 2
    4. Borderlands 2
    5. Dead By Daylight

1 & 2 would probably fit all your criteria above.

We play this from the couch on the steam link. It is fabulous. Sort of like a top-scrolling shooter, but much more fun. Single PC shared screen co-op, reminiscent of old console games.

As above but more of a side-scrolling beat-em-up with rpg/dungeonhack elements.

Buy a switch and get Mario Kart.

Maybe a Nintendo 64 for Mario party as well!

Fortnite is fun for the hole fam
Those QC35’s will come in handy when it comes to cancelling out the high pitched yelps of the 6 year olds that you will combine with in the ultimate battle where virtual resources are unsustainably harvested for the greater good of no one.
    Well done epic games

Another less enchanting option is the Nintendo Classic Mini NES Pre-Order $79.95 Delivered @ Amazon AU

Battle block theater. It ticks all your boxes.

    Fortnite

Diablo 3. Third person (which my fiance likes, she can't handle FPSers). If you are on console it's local co-op.
PC I believe you will need two PC's but they could have added split screen since I last played.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions !
There are now plenty of suggestions for me to look at.

Spaceteam on Android and iPhone - it won't hold your attention forever, but is great with guests or kids for a laugh.

Also path of exile on Steam is free and arguable way better than Diablo 3.

  • Have you considered a board game instead? Could change up the dynamic considering you won't be sitting there looking at a screen and talking to each other over microphones etc.
