Where to buy Honda Grom Service Kits

Hello ozbargainers.

I have a Honda Grom, it due for first service soon. However, peterstevens want $330, which imo is a rip off.

I have watched few youtube video showing how to DIY first service.

But one problem, I could not find any shop selling the Honda Grom service kits(oil, washer, seal etc).

Any fellow riders know where I can buy them?
Or do you know a place that don't charge two legs plus an arm for the first service?

Edit: Update:
Turns out, peter stevens do sell parts service parts, even though they don't list them online.
You just have go in shop, pay, and they order it for you.

But, since it Australia, price is about 2.5 times of that America.

1 litre oil plus parts is $33.50, ten times less price then they do it for you.

And for engine oil, go Penrite semi synthetic 10w30, API SN, and Jaso MA 4 stroke motorcycle engine oil from super cheap auto.

Comments

  • Buy the parts from Peter Stevens.

    Is it still under warranty?

    • Yes, but calling peterstevens spare parts department gets no answer, leaving a note for them to call back, never calls back.

  • That does sound like a rip off. Take it to a recommended trusted local motorcycle mechanic(?) That way you dont jeapordise your manufacturers warranty. Then DIY after its out of warranty. If you are in Sydney I can give you some recommendations.

Good on you for servicing yourself! I've had two motorcycles and have always serviced them myself. I once owned a CBR125R which I'm fairly sure has the same engine as the grom. Its a simple machine that doesn't have much that can go wrong with it.

Just get some oil and bash it in there every 6 months. You shouldn't need washers/seals.. There should be a crush washer in the sump plug. This shouldn't need replacing every time you do an oil change.. Just do the oil change, if its leaking then empty the oil, flip the crush washer and try again, if that doesn't work then replace it.

My current bike has over 100k kms on it - just keep the fluids topped up and replace the oil every 6-9 months and you'll be right. If something else goes wrong with the bike you'll notice it - and its unlikely that it will be a major issue so just take it in then to a mechanic.

  • As a grom owner, you'll need the following for an oil change:

1L motorcycle oil for the engine, brands like motul or penrite, either full or semi synthetic, weight 10w40, you can buy 4L bottles to cover future oil changes and to save money.

1 14mm aluminium crush washer, buy from any honda dealership, these are typically single use items, no point in reusing such a cheap consumable unless you have forgotten to buy another.

Note there is not a standard filter in the grom that needs to be changed, but there is a screen filter that you can remove and clean.

Look up videos on youtube, it should take you just over an hour for your first time, and consumables up to $30

I do DIY oil changes on my Yamaha and just buy oil from Supercheap Auto that's rated JASO MA for motorcycles with a wet clutch. But check your owners manual for what oil your bike needs.

This one is currently on special at $30 for 5L…

You could buy a crush washer and filter from any Honda bike dealer, but just call them first to get a price. I would be surprised if it's more than $40. They would sell oil too but SCA is cheaper. I noticed SCA now stocks some motorcycle oil filters, and Repco has them too.

I use that same oil for all my bikes - To be honest my bikes feel the best when I use this oil!

That oil is the best bang for buck I have seen.

Paying almost $100 for 4L of the stuff from bike shops is a joke.

  • Ring the service dept of any bike shop and order a grom filter. Go to SCA as mentioned above and grab that oil (it's fine for a grom). When you get to the service dept to pick up your filter, ask to buy a crush washer at the same time.

After you've done this service, go to partzilla.com and order 3/4 filters and washers. They are easily half the price, but can take 4 weeks or so to get here from the USA

I totally agree. Motorcycle/Scooter service is the biggest rip-of, much worse than dealership service for cars. I've once had a $3800 scooter and the first service cost had been $350 similar to yours. I'm absolutely certain they wouldn't have even spent 15 minutes on a bike that was practically new at that point. That was the last time I've gotten a bike serviced at a dealer or at one of their recommended workshops. I currently have a much more expensive motorcycle and by doing the service DIY I get to use better quality spares and oils at a fraction of the cost in addition to the satisfaction knowing I haven't skipped anything with the service.

My advice: Get a service manual for the Grom (free or for a small fee online to download) and stick to the service intervals, checks and consumable replacements mentioned in there and the user manual and you will be doing a much better job than the dodgy dealerships.

  • Have you considered looking on Google? Or maybe eBay?

    • Yes, teturned no results.

Closest one I got is from Europe, but I am not sure about the compatibility.
