iiNet Vs TPG - Naked ADSL2+

I am moving to a new place in 2mths and have discovered there will be no NBN at least until mid next year :(

It seems the only naked ADSL options are TPG and iiNet with very similar pricing fora 500gb limit (i wouldn't use the unlimited so would rather save the $10 extra).

Who would you recommend? TPG or iiNet? I'm in Brunswick area in Melbourne for reff.

Also any recomendations for a ADSL modem that won't crap out every 2 seconds? I bought a TP-Link VG5612 for $30 clearance from OfficeWorks but don't have high hopes.

It's gonna suck either way going from 100mbps to 20mbps - but I'll be close to the exchange so there's a little sunshine in there.

Or if you can suggest another provider/option let me know!
Note: no other cable options available in the area as HCF is being allocated to NBN next year in the area.

I think they are exactly the same

Yep I agree, TPG owns iiNet for awhile now. iiNet may have some advantage if you're in WA, due to their main presence there, but other than that largely both use the same network now from what I can recall.

As others have said, they're both owned by the same company, so likely you're not going to get much difference? (TPG, Iinet, Internode). But I do know for internode and iiNet that you have access to change settings such as gaming mode or video mode or similar (I think you can choose between more speed less stability, or more stability less latency less speed etc). Not sure if TPG has the same?

  • You can explore fixed wireless service from Vivid and other providers which is presumably better than ADSL.

Whirlpool.net.au has a database of all providers and associated info and discussion.

    • In addition to this, also check if maybe HFC cable is available to you via Telstra or Optus which can grant speeds up to around ~100/2.

      • Sadly it’s not - seems they are not offering it in anticipation of NBN annoyingly.

    • More expensive for less data and slower speeds. Doesn’t seem to add up

  • Consider yourself lucky if you are going to get 20 down. Currently on 5 and no NBN till 2020

  • Thanks everyone - seems I’ll just go with whoever I click on haha once I’m ready. It’s gonna be a nightmare going back to adsl - honestly don’t remember life with such shit internet haha
