Betta's Home Living 6 Years Total Product Protection. Is It Worth Anything?

Hi All,

I am about to pull the trigger on purchasing a LG 11kg front loader washing machine from Betta Home Living (https://www.betta.com.au/lg-washer-front-load-11kg-708505)

Just before I do so, anyone care to share some insight on Betta’s 6 years total product protection (https://www.betta.com.au/laundry-product-protection-redempti…).

The T&C is standard however no PDS available. I have attempted to contact Betta’s head office and received the following response –

“Unfortunately, I do not have any of the specific information that you are after. Your best bet may be to get in contact with a local store, who can physically access the warranty information from the product and you can have a read to see what is covered, how it is covered and what timeframes you have with certain aspects of claiming:

https://www.betta.com.au/locator/search/?country=Australia&s…

My apologies for not being able to assist further. A store will be able to show you the full warranty information for the products you are after which extends for the 6 year period, but the rest of the information is circumstantial and varies between manufacturers.”

I am puzzled if head office is not able to provide information, what more its franchise outlets.

Am now wondering if the 6 year total product protection is $$ worth what it is written on paper.

UPDATE 25 May 2018

I have managed to negotiate with Appliances Online to sell me this unit (https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/lg-wd1411sbw-11kg-front-…) for $1150 + Free Delivery, Installation & Removal of Redundant Unit.

I've used this (https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/wd1411sbw-lg-11kg-front-…) to get appliances online to price match, applied MAY2018 for $20 discount and quoted cashreward 1.4% to get the final figure of $1150. Hope it helps for those looking for a new washing machine as well.

  • I wouldn't bother; the product comes with LG's warranty (2 Years parts and labour + 8 years on Inverter Direct Drive Motor (parts only)).

The additional cover offered by Betta is an not warranted in my opinion (see what I did there).

    • Do you reckon extended warranty is important for whitegoods purchase?

      • I don't as LG is a pretty reasonable brand and the provided warranty is good (IMO).

      • Normally the insurance premium (extended warranty) was about 10% of the white appliance. It does depend on the value of the item.
I bought them in the past for the TV, fridge and washing machine.but the products were reliable and had not had the need to claim.
Think in the past, certain credit card (?Amex) provided extended warranty free of charge if purchase was made using the card - not sure if this is still the case.
Most often the receipt will faint before the extended warranty expired. Always photocopy and keep the original with the PDS.

  • How much is it?

Costco is currently selling it for $1179.99 without delivery. Betta Home Living is selling it for $1249 + Free delivery + Dubious 6 year free total product protection.

      • I would go for the Betta , no brainer mainly for the delivery option.

another shop sells the same appliance for $11xx.
Standard warranty from LG is 2 years. Extended warranty total 6 years is actually 2 years LG warranty + from 3rd to 6th years covered by a third party insurance company. Eg. for $199 - or you are actually paying for it.
Head Office can’t provide the T&C because shops are selling you extended warranty (insurance) from another company. The T&C is part of PDS (product disclosure statement) - you only get it when you buy it but they don’t want you to take home and study line by line. Most insurance has a cooling off period so you can read the PDS.

    • great find and thank you. I intend to study the PDS but luck is rather slim. I am hopping if the PDS works out, i have a 'free' 6 year protection plan.

Hardly normal was trying to flock me this model + delivery + warranty (4 years) for $1385.

      Seriously bro?

It is illegal to not offer a PDS to the customer before purchase.

But large businesses in Australia own the government and routinely conduct illicit behavior at the expense of citizens. So victims get ripped off like you and no one goes to jail while the government collects their "cost of doing business ripping you off" payment in the form of a fine if and when they get prosecuted.

    No.

You are covered by ACL. In store warranties are a scam for the gullible.

  • It seems Betta Home Living partner with The Warranty Group Australasia for their Extended Warranty and some terms are listed on Betta' website here.

Can't be sure whether the promotion is offering this Extended Warranty or something else.

    • I believe the back up plan and the protection plan is different. The protection plan is with BSR Group and make no mention of Warranty Group Australasia. Anyway, i gave up on getting a copy of the pds. Emailed and called headoffice and two local stores near me, non able to provide me the PDS and/or have little information on them. I have only been quoted it is a warranty but did not have a clear confirmation on the entitlement on what is covered and not.
