Dog Gets Really Excited about Ant Nests - What Does It Mean?

I have a pet Japanese Spitz. Whenever he sees an ant nest he gets really excited about the ants and rubs his face against the ant nest.

I'm really confused as to why he does it.

Haven't found anything on the internet about this.

Anyone know? Has he sniffed out some SIM cards that the ants are hoarding?

Thanks!

  • Could just love the scent? Mine roll around in horse droppings when we go walking on the bridle trails.

    • That must be fun for you afterwards…

Yeah maybe. He's a strange pup.

      • They’re outdoor dogs. They can deal with it :) :)

  • he wants the queen

It means that he hasn't been bitten by the ants yet!

The bodies of house ants have a chemical in them thats similar to that of blue cheese. https://academic.oup.com/ae/article/61/2/85/1756864
    Its possible he's getting confused

  • He thinks that he's an ant?

  • I think he does this dog like behaviour because, he is in fact, a dog.

    Dogid Anttenborough

  • Your dog Must think he is a bird

Rubbing face against ants nest and crushing ants gives a natural insect repellent. I know birds do this for this reason, so not sure if the same, or your dog is just a bit diff.

I think ur dog is just different

      He's a Japanese Spitz.

He lacks band 28 and an Australian warranty.

      • If he is Japanese he should have band 28. Maybe it's a fake dropshipped from AliExpress.

You sure you have a dog? How long is its nose?

    • i think he would know if it was an elephant and not a dog. They are massive

  • Ant nests are canine viagra.. Has he got a new bitch ?

  • he obviously has an ant fetish, stop judging him
