New Laptop Delivered - Only to Find That The Website Price Has Tumbled by $200!

Hi all

Wondering if you've had a similar experience, and what ways are there to deal with it.

I made a purchase of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 3 on 14/5 through an online rep. Silver model with 4G (black with 4G wasn't available). He gave me a quote that was better than the website price.

The laptop was delivered today, and just out of curiosity, I went to check Lenovo's website, only to discover the price of the laptop + all associated accessories + additional warranty had tumbled by an additional $200!

The Amex card I purchased it with had no purchase price protection (previously when Westpac issued Amex cards that was available).

Your thoughts?

never check prices after you've bought it (except for price guarantee purpose)

  • Bad luck, happens to everyone!

  • It's called a sale.

Do they have a returns policy?

    • Need to check. Thanks!

  • Just return it, and buy it again.

    • There's a 20% restocking fee! :(

      • do you still come out ahead?

Get a card with price protection guarantee

    • Many cards (eg: Citibank, ANZ, and BoM) has Price Guarantee. Citibank is the most generous I think.

      Check your insurance t & c.

The mistake was when you bought the laptop

  • You can ask the store for refund the difference or halfway if they can't. If they still can't, too bad, they just don't really have to.
