How Much Are You Paying for Your Usenet?

Just noticed my usenet tick over in PayPal, $6.88 AUD with ThunderNews. I'm on unlimited with 50 connections I can get 60Mbit through VPN with the right connection.

I got that on a sale last year, I was with them prior, paying slightly more.

I saw a 75% off deal with XS at $30 odd, but it was expired a long time and no other deals came close recently.

Jackett has gotten really good now, thinking about giving usenet away. Or maybe just buying a block account.

  • $0, I just use Jackett + Radarr/Sonarr, works gud

  • $4.95 USD unmetered. Was a special offer at Newsdemon.

You shouldn't be paying more than 10USD last I checked, maybe prices increased?

    • Yeah, $6.88 is after USD to AUD. It used to be less. @Diji1, do YOU think it's worth it? Its good when you want some thing old. Or for obscure stuff.

  • totally forgot i had this. what indexing sites to use these days?

    • NZBGeek ,usenet-crawler (when it's working) and the free ones configured in nzbhydra

      • I don't think crawler has been working for at least a couple of weeks.

  • How do vpn work? Does it hide your internet activity?

    • It's a tunnel. You VPN from your house to my house, then whatever you're browsing, it looks like I'm doing it

      • Oh i see

      • Is vpn necessary when you can use SSL connection to usenet provider?

  • Previously $5 (I think), now $0.

    I can’t justify it I guess.

        Curious… what kinda stuff?

        • +1

          Books, niche software, niche music

Comics, movies where there might be no seeds for torrents, usenet goes instantly

It's like if MegaUpload, FileJoker etc etc, if they all shared the same common archive of files and the only difference between them was download speed and cost. Like electricity.

But then you need an equivalent of a torrent site as well and the best ones are paid. And even though they all access the same pool of files, they only seem to know about 2/3 of the files each.

The thing that does make it great though is I have full blown NBN and if you're just gonna watch some thing and delete it, may as well watch it in super bestest quality.

For me, it's just starting to seem a little expensive, but the only program you need is EITHER SabNZBd or NZBGet and lots of sites mentioned in this thread give free trials.

  • ~$5/mth - usenetbucket

    • AUD?

      • Yep.. During any of their regular sales the second tier plan comes to about 5 bucks a month (paid for the year)

Check my post history as I've posted deals for it a couple of times.

$0 for Astraweb - they still haven't deactivated my account since they were booted off Paypal a few years ago.

I do have a block with tweaknews as well which is pretty cheap too
