Wide Fit Hiking Boots

I'm recovering from a badly broken foot / ankle. It is bigger than my other foot. I'm after some new hiking boots. Right now I have found a pair of keens that are wide in the toes; I've removed the insole from the left boot which works for my big foot. These are the only boots I can get on because the tongue goes down to the base of the toes - so I can open the boot right up.

These are OK for low stuff, but the mountains here are dolomite and destroy boots that have stitching on the sides, like most current boots do. I'm looking for european type one piece leather boots - think Zamberlain. I have a pair but I can't get the left on. Does anyone know of a wide fitting one piece type leather boot, with tongue that goes down to the base of the toes? Some stitching around the cuff or above the ankle is OK. Stitching low down won't work - I've destroyed these types of boots in a day regardless of cost.

  • sadly i think you will need to go into stores and try some on until you find a pair that fit.

only problem it will cost $.

  • That's OK, I was just wondering if anybody knows of boots that fit this criteria. Stores only have what they have. If I know something fits the criteria, I can find the store that deals with that brand and ask them to order in.

  • Lowa Tibet GTX.

    Resoleable inside and out.

Comes in standard and wide fitting

Lowest stitch is ankle height (except for heel joint)

Lemme know if you find a bargain on them.

    • I've seen reviews on a lowa model boot. Expensive but good. Thanks - I'll look into them and get back if I find something. Just eyeballed some pics - stitching low down on the outside side of the boot, which is still OK. It's always the inside side that cops it when you're climbing. Nothing on ebay in my size - they are expensive, not sure if I can come at that (my foot might get smaller :) ) I'll check out local shops to see if someone has them or will get them in for a try. No. There is an australian site that shows dealers - none in Tassie. For you though? http://www.lowaboots.com.au/pages/Store-Locator.htmx

      • No dealers near me. I guess I'll just make a trip to Sydney where there's a stockist, or a shopping holiday to the US. Need to resupply on stuff anyway.

  • Danner 600 wide fit.

    • They look awesome - like a pair of rossi I used to own. Can't find them in Aust. A couple of dodgy sites that redirect to europe or US. One (seoblasts.com.au) just looks shifty - not much info on them and what there is isn't good. Thankyou though.

      • I picked up mine on Amazon. They sometimes have sales up to 25% off, which puts them well below official A$250-280 that Danner charge to ship here.
