You Can Now Delete and Re-create Your Google Opinions Rewards Account

In case you haven't noticed, Google has updated their Google Opinions (Rewards) app in order to make it more GDPR compliant. The new setting is tucked away in the settings panel on the left — tap the hamburger icon, hit Settings and then you'll be able to make some changes from there.

If you've also moved to a new country, or your age has changed, or you've decided that you want to be identified as a different gender, you can do that too in the same setting panel. These changes will have an impact on what sort of surveys you'll get and consequently the payout per each survey; it's likely that being identified as female might actually land you more surveys, although this is just merely speculation on my part.

If you suspect that your account is broken because you haven't been receiving surveys in a long time, completely nuking your Rewards profile and then starting all over again might be a good way to 'reset' and fix any problems that you previously might've had with Opinions.

  • As a side note, does the credit ever actually expire? I've bought all the apps I've ever wanted (I don't play any games on my phone) so I have $15 just sitting around. I could use it for a subscription service, but there aren't any I'm interested in.

yes it expires, at around the 12 month mark.

It mentions the 12 month mark inside my app, but I've had credit there for years. I think it's 12 months from your most recent survey.

      • I'm inclined to think it's either this or it doesn't expire.

        • +1

Mine started slowly expiring a couple of months ago, which worked out to be 12 months from the date I signed up and the initial run of surveys were done.

To be clear, this was 12 months from the date each credit was earned, not 12 months since my last survey.

        • @djkelly69: Oh ok interesting. better find something to spend it on then

          • @BlazinPast: (Sorry, grave digging the thread)

My belief is, it's saying 12mths from THAT survey. So you don't lose the lot, but it's a constant ticking time bomb. Perfect for them. Give you crumbs they know you'll impulse spend on their store, for giving them your every movement/detail upon request.

I'm going to spend my balance, then cancel & delete. IF i can be bothered again, I'll start again & base all answers on a friend (for consistent but BS answers).

            WTH was I thinking?!

            • @Ulysses31: almost all my questions are " did you go to this shop? did you buy something? did you pay via debt card?"

google already knows the answers to these questions, because I used Google Pay to pay for the item I bought there. Yet they pay me approx .40c a day to tell them what they already know.

What they are trying to capture here though, is how much you lie vs tell the truth

    • I reached to $70-80 balance and had a bit of pause for almost a year due to change phone, relogin to the new phone and found my balance was $4-5, so yeah better use it within 12 months

  • LOL… "or your age has changed"

      • technically we all getting older every split second/constantly over time. dont know what is the correct word hope you understand

        • technically we all getting older every split second/constantly over time.

          that depends on many things.

  • thanks. have just changed my gender.

  • If you suspect that your account is broken because you haven't been receiving surveys in a long time

Also, check your phone had not put the app to sleep from the background.

  • How often do you get surveys? I've had maybe two since installing it ages ago. Just did the account number to see if that makes a difference

    • +1

Every few days. If you're active and go to a lot of stores, you'll get surveys on your experience of visiting that store. Make sure you're honest if you haven't been to any of the stores. Sometimes they just check if you're being truthful or not. I've made over $60 so far with the app

      • Cool. Maybe it was a location services thing.

      • I've made $404.xx on mine so far, I'm a tradie and get a lot of surveys for hardware stores and other places near them such as fast food.

  • will my balance be written off if i delete my account?

    • +1

      Your balance will be safe.

  • Maybe nuking would be a good idea for me, I keep getting the same 3-5 surveys - eg what is the highest level of education youve completed, what is your household income, what industry are you working in
