Anybody Have Experience Buying Bed Frames from eBay?

Hey folks,

wanted to see if anyone has experience buying BRAND NEW bed frames from ebay? Furniture is ridiculously cheap on ebay. Most of it is MDF/ikea low quality but for starting off in a first home, it seems perfect.

However I wanted to see if anyone has had experience feedback (positive/negative) with buying furniture (bed frames in particular) from ebay.
For example:
Ozplaza King Gas Lift Frame

Tommy Swiss King Bed

So if you have bought furniture from ebay:
1) What did you buy?
2) Are you happy it?
3) How long did it/is it lasting you?

I am trying to by a decent bed frame as we just moved into our 1st home and trying to save money in the process of furnishing. (yes we have already scoured facebook marketplace and gumtree and got most of the stuff we need, just looking for decent bed frame for now)

Thanks for the help!

I've bought two tommy swiss queen beds and a bed frame for my house - bed frame was great - mattresses are fantastic i would stay away from the leather look alikes for obvious reasons but am more than happy with the 3/4 years of use.

    • Ah ok thats good feedback. thanks

They take ages to install, they come in smaller packages.

    The quality is horrendous.

The bed frames will eventually ruin the mattress as they use the cheaper curved slats.

Remember with these it's pretty much build, use for a few years and throw out. No way you can reconstruct these as they basically fall apart.

    • Yea im aware the quality isnt the greatest. The material is MDF so you cant dissemble it.

  • I bought one it’s decent - major concern was the fabric not feeling very nice but it’s pretty good!

The frame seems a little flimsy and a bit softer than the our previous bulky timber one, but all in all good for $200.

    • Thanks for the feedback.

  • Had the Tommy Swiss gas lift for an apartment in Melbourne. Worked great. Bit fiddly to put together but at the end of the day it was solid and had heaps of storage under it.

    • thats good to know! cheers

  • Have you consider getting secondhand from, say, Gumtree? Quality might be better than when you can get on ebay.

    • yea I have. i have bought plenty of smaller things on ebay but hiring a truck to pick up kind of defeats the purpose of it. A decent bed from gumtree might be $300-400 and cost of hire for a day might be another $100 so all of a sudden (factoring in cost of travel, cost of perhaps taking a half day from work, cost of hire) you are in "brand new furniture from Amart" territory.

      • Solution for the problems you raised:
        - Shop nearby
        - Pick up in the evening/ weekend (the sellers probably have to go to work too)
        - Bring a mate
        - Hire a van from GoGet/ Hertz 24/7 etc for an hour or so doesn't cost much (assuming there is a pod nearby)

It's a good value if you can get a decent piece of furniture for Amart's price.

  • thanks folks, bought the tommy swiss bed. Lets see what its like!

    what's it like?

    • Been using it since I bought it. A little tricky to assemble as one screw hole was not cut out in line but managed a way around it. Its sturdy, looks good, doesnt creak.

Both Wife and I are "big boned" ppl so it holds our weight fairly well. overall, very happy!

      • really appreciate the feedback. cheers!
