  • $399 here. Not a deal

Technically that one doesn't include exam, xrays or cleaning, whilst the OP's deal does.

      • Fair point, but I don't pay $100 for my dentistry work. Plus a quick Google search shows many Sydney dentists charging ~$500 for the service (including X-rays, cleaning etc included). I feel this 'deal' is closer to spam than a bargain

  • +2

Speaking from experience. Don't bother. The afterwards pain is unbelievable! No smiling.

Please note that the deal at smiledeals is for 45 minutes which equates to 3 sessions.
This deal includes 4 x 15 minutes sessions. Generally whitening start to take effect after the 3rd session so it is advisable to complete all 4 sessions (60 minutes).

My experience with Uplus Dental was pretty awful. I know they are a business and all but their practices border on unethical. They will fabricate dental conditions and pressure you into services you don't need. The choice is ultimately up to you but if you go there, you will end up paying $100s more than you expected. When I got there, they told me that the Zoom treatment with the deal would only minimally whiten my teeth and wouldn't last more than a few weeks. They then told me I would need to pay $200 more to get the full treatment. Let the buyer beware!

Chubbz170, sorry to hear that you had unpleasant experience with us. I'm sure there was misunderstanding in relation to the whitening treatment. Our treatment is the full treatment with 4 x 15 minutes sessions, nothing less and nothing more.

      • +1

There was no misunderstanding. After I questioned why this was not stipulated, i was spoken to by several staff members and was then told that because of delay I caused, my whitening procedure could no longer be performed that day.

I was summoned by PJC. Usually as his sidekick, I would help protect people from dodgy or misleading dental related deals.

I was and am a bit reluctant to reply to this because I am afraid I will get downvoted for this.

I speak to no knowledge of Uplus, and make no claims or comments regarding their business.

As an industry insider, what I can comment on is the price. Here's where I might get down voted.

The price does actually seem fair.

A lot of practices charge $500 or more just for whitening alone so if you do get a proper check-up, x-ray, and clean with it then it actually seems a decent deal.

Now there are places that do generic brand (not Phillips Zoom) whitening for about $300 so if you compare with that, you're paying $200 for the other stuff.

I think that brings it to fair price territory. Maybe not dirt cheap or necessarily a bargain but definitely not a rip off.

      Appreciate your comments Hogg.

If someone was determined to get their teeth whitened, what's your industry insider view on Philips Zoom and their generic alternatives.

      • +2

        Thanks mate.

My view is, at this end of the day, it's all the same chemical, hydrogen peroxide. So perhaps we're paying a premium for the brand name.

The costs for a practice to buy Phillips Zoom is quite high and they are like Apple in that they have proprietary components that lock you into their system. You can't mix and match components from different brands.

Also there are laws against non-dentists using high (more effective) concentrations of hydrogen peroxide so remember to take that into account when comparing prices.

A non-dentist cannot use more than 6% hydrogen peroxide while a dentist would normally use 25%+.
