Use Data Whilst Forwarding Number

Hey.

Going to USA shortly and I was wondering if I put my mobile Sim in my kids iPad
(who is staying in Australia) but forwarded my calls to the missus, if the iPad could use the data?

The kids are staying here but there's no net where they are staying. So looking for a solution to Skype them

Yes /no/ better ideas?

Cheers

    Nah that won’t work.

I’d get on one of the belong deals so they have internet.

Also they’ll want internet for general usage.

Try it now and see if it works.

In theory it should work if you place an ALL call forward/ diversion before you pull out the sim from your phone and place it in the iPad.

Anyone calling you immediately will be forwarded (on the network level) to your wife’s phone before even reaching the iPad. iPad still can use the data normally. Also, this way you can FaceTime them without Skype.

I’d be wary of the forward charges & if the wife is going with you the cost of roaming and receiving calls abroad.

A side note, kids don’t know how to estimate their data usage, so you’d better have a good data allowance before going ahead, unless you are on prepaid.

    • cheers.. ill will try tonight…

thanks for the reminder about the roaming charges .. we have 40gb a month, shared, and rarely use it so hopefully it will be enough

  • You should be able to forward calls to another number and still use data on the original sim. No idea why others are saying you cannot. Done this dozens of times.

Why not just get a data sim in the US?

How will that help the kids left behind in Australia?
