Can I Drive to Vivid?

Hi all,

I'm wanting to experience Vivid tonight. It appears it's raining though and for the sake of convenience and for the sake of staying out of the rain and enjoying a car drive, do you suggest it's a good idea to view vivid from a car?

I'm hoping to drive around, not stop anywhere (So I can avoid paying for Parking). I'm also wanting to not drive over the harbour bridge (For the sake of avoiding tolls).

Can anyone suggest if it is a feasible idea to drive around the city to see vivid? If so, can you please suggest a route?

I've never seen Vivid so don't know what to expect.

Thanks

Cahill expressway would give you a reasonable vantage for about 30 seconds but that requires driving over the bridge. Otherwise it's a terrible idea

    • OP could always come in from the ANZAC Bridge side and travel over the Harbour Bridge

you might as well google the images… you definitely will get a better view and see the whole lot from the comfort of your arm chair and a glass of scotch

Here are all the roads they have closed so you can't drive close to anything https://www.vividsydney.com/road-closures

    Do those even go together?

I loooove driving in the rain!!! Nothing more soothing than hearing the pitter patter against the top of the sunroof/windows.

  • I thought most of the roads in sydney CBD are blocked?

    • seems you're right :(

Yes of course, train would be easier though.

    DEFINITELY DO NOT DRIVE

I made that mistake one year - traffic to the outskirts was light, but then i was stuck in CBD traffic for 2 hours just to get to my hotel (we stayed back instead of driving back to Wollongong afterwards)

No it is not a good idea.
No feasible way to drive to vivid.

  • No. It's not feasible to drive in the city when vivid is not on either…

  • parking at barangaroo is pretty cheap at night at 10-12$

Why drive your AMG, when you can take public transport?

I went to Vivid last week, it isn't that good. Consider coming to Canberra in March for Enlighten.

  • I had a look without getting out of the car. You can drive through kings cross and see the fountain lit up. And you can drive to mrs Macquarie’s chair and see the harbour bridge. Not sure about the opera house without getting out of the car. If you don’t live in Sydney I wouldn’t bother making a special trip for it though :-/

I’m sorry to sound condescending, but if you rarely visit sydney city, I highly advise AGAINST driving into the area, as I have seen so many non-frequent visitors cause so many near accidents because of lack of road knowledge & attention to the road closures or 1 way streets. Sydney city is now more of a predestrian location, and as such, best to see it on foot. Especially during vivid, everyone’s eyes are all focused at the light shows, and not where they are going.. way too dangerous with so many people walking around aimlessly.

As someone who regularly drives in Sydney City, I agree with the above
