Car Insurance Cover Cost of Taxi?

So I just got into a small fender bender.

Before anyone asks:
1. I have comprehensive
2. They have 3rd party
3. The other driver admitted fault while on scene, changed their tune at their insurance.
4. Their insurance agrees with me.
5. I have dashcam, the footage of which I haven't needed (and thus haven't shown).

My question is on the title, can I get the cost of a taxi fare covered? To reduce the amount of inconvenience I was hoping to drop off my drivable car at the repairers, take a taxi to the closest car rental yard, and then its time to return to collect my car I'll drop off the rental and take a taxi to the repairers.

Anyone knows?

(p.s. will ask my insurer first thing in the morning)

Also, anything else I could claim while I'm at it? Spilled blinker fluid?

edit: repairers will pick me up from car rental place.

kahn gave a look of pleasant surprise.

  • Do you have rental vehicle add-on on your insurance? If so, rental vehicle will be free.

You can call YOUR insurance company and ask if they provide taxi to rental yard. Other guy won't have it so you can't claim it from them.

That sentence tells me you don't know what you're talking about.

      • And your sentence tells me you don't know what you are talking about.

I have comprehensive car insurance with RACQ, 4 friggin times I have had people run into my car, 4 times RACQ have provided me with a rental car AND free taxi travel from either my home or the smash repair company to the car rental company, and then another free taxi from the rental company back to the smash repair place to pick my car up.

        • Rental vehicle is free REGARDLESS of rental vehicle add-on.

If you thought you needed the add-on for free rental, you have no clue.

5 others who downvoted also had no clue.

Normally the repairer will arrange a taxi/transport once you drop the car off. Talk to your insurance company and/or the repairer.

    • Good point. I'll ask them too!

Taxi fares will be covered by your insurance.

  • Drive your car to rental. Rent the car. Drive it to your repairer and ask the llama to hop in and come and pick up your damaged car?

Your repairer may have a courtesy bus/lift service that will get you somewhere. Saves the hassle of a taxi and receipts etc.

If your insurer accepts its not your fault and the other party has lodged a claim with their insurer.
Regardless of whether you have hire car cover these guys will get you a hire car at no cost to you.
The companies listed above deal direct with your insurer and they charge the cost of the car to the other party (again they have to have lodged a claim with their insurer)

Have used Acorn myself and they are very efficient, they even bring the car to you and pick it up when done.

    • With the all above they have to accept that you are probably not at fault, and generally they accept it if you insurer accepts it, which in your case they have. I used right 2 drive before and they were fine, cost me nothing. That way you still have a car. Only hassle is that you have to organise it and the return (which are both pretty easy, they bring it to you and collect it from you, can even meet you at the repairers or drop it off at the repairers when car is fixed), and you also need to fill it up with petrol before returning it.

what did your insurance company say when you called them?

    • I'm on holiday atm, and I am still waiting on a quote from my smash repairers (I've brought the car in for them to look already). As soon as I hear from these guys and back from holiday I'll do my calls.

  • update: repairers will pick me up. No need to worry about taxi.
