HyperX Cloud Flight Wireless Gaming Headset $167.20 (20% off) @ JB Hi-Fi

80

Hello fellow ozbargainers,

JB-HI-FI is having a 20% off sale on gaming Logitech, HyperX and Corsair.
After receiving my $200 gift card from the Telstra BYO offer I was in the market for a wireless gaming headset and was about to buy these yesterday for $200 after negotiating the ticket price of $239. When I came back to pick up the headset I found a poster they were having a sale. So far, pretty good reviews on the headset and price hipster shows these headsets hardly go on sale.

eBay has them for $249.

Enjoy!!

look at the hyper-X cloud alpha, the cables are detachable so if they break they can be replaced rather than throwing the headset …. non-replaceable cables on headsets is a real nuisance and many headsets get downvoted on forums … seems Kingston listened with the hyper-X alpha.

"DETACHABLE BRAIDED CABLE WITH IN-LINE AUDIO CONTROL
Easily adjust volume and mute the mic with convenient in-line audio controls."

might go into JB as 20% off these would be good, staticice and other are around $160 , so 20% off JB would be as cheap as it gets.

Not quite understand, so OP’s WIRELESS headset got cables for?

      • no OPs is wireless …. Xbox has a 3.5mm socket and it auto pairs with controller, nothing to set up or pair via wireless … makes it easy when you have multiple people playing xbox at the same time e.g peoples kids have come over …

    • I have the cloud alphas and had the cloud II's before that.

They are both incredible headsets, but my cloud II cable broke after about two and a half years.
The cloud alpha has been flawless, and the removable cable is an amazing addition to an already great headset.

Highly recommend both, recommend the alpha a bit more.

Care to elaborate? My son has been asking for a headset for gaming. Should I be looking elsewhere?

He means that the price premium paid for these "gaming" marketed headsets are usually not as good value as separately buying a good pair of headphones with a separate mic (e.g. a clip-on to retain the headset experience). It comes from both the markup from all the gaming branding, unnecessary features (RGB anyone), and generally worse audio quality compared to equally priced standard headphones.

I'll say though, if you're not too fussed on audiophile levels of audio quality and would prefer the convenience of a headset as a single purchase package (easier for kids to use too I suppose), especially for a wireless one, these probably aren't too bad for the price. Just don't get sucked in by the branding, marketing, fancy colours, lighting and what not.

Was joking my man. Idk about this particular one but I tried the Cloud II and they were pretty nice and that's what I'd recommend if you just need a headset for gaming that you can buy literally anywhere since it's popular + pretty sure they got a 2 year warranty and I heard the brand lives up to their word on that. I imagine since it's so popular troubleshooting would be easy as well. I'm just one of those people who wouldn't buy one myself. I'm 'that' annoying (profanity) that goes everywhere telling everyone to consider their options and make a decision after some time instead of just buying a gaming headset straightup without knowing the cons/pros of other options.
For your son something like a Cloud II would be perfect (assuming he is ok with wired and doesn't want wireless). Better to buy one that's been tested and reviewed thousand times over as positive instead of something like this I reckon as from a quick google search the feedback on this particular one isn't as good.

      • I'm a big ugly adult, and in the market for a new headset myself. Go forth and get one for your son.

Perhaps he means that a lot of people now pair high quality headphones with a desk microphone, rather than use an integrated gaming headset. This makes sense for streamers, Youtubers etc who need production quality. For the rest of us it's overkill.

        • yeap, when the kids friends come over they sit back on the lounge, plug the headset into the controller and off they go with their team mates …. separate mic's on coffee table would be a nightmare …

A lot of people recommend pairing the SHP9500 by Philips with a V-Moda Boompro Mic. Not sure how much it costs or how much you're willing to spend but the audio quality from the headphones is really good, and the Boompro has really good audio quality, much better than what you'd get from a gaming headset mic. You can get both from Amazon US

    • if you have kids and an xbox , when they have spare time on come the head sets and they game "in the cloud" …especially things like fortnite.

the controllers on xbox also have 3.5mm sockets for headset to plug into so they becomes wireless.

  • I’m confused, are these not surround sound headphones?

    • wellllll
most headsets try to "emulate" surround sound … you can actually buy the surround sound inline amps on Ebay , not expensive …..and then you can set up the sound card for it ….. if are really into it …

for xbox controller is L-R mic and a 3.5mm plug.

to do proper surround sound rather than emulation they'd need 3 speaker in each side ….that would be one hell of cable …..

    • I hope not

    • "I’m confused, are these not surround sound headphones?"
      They use simulated surround sound.

Surround is simulated by 'adding' delay and other "effects" to the sound which do not exist in the original sound.
Many people like me dislike simulated surround sound because the added effects increase noise.

Surround sound would actually require dedicated speakers running on separate channels.
      IE:
      Stereo plus one channel (3.0).
OR 4.0 (Left, Right, Left rear, Right rear.
OR 5.0 Left, centre, right, left rear, right rear.
      ETC

5.1 includes a "shared" subsonic or LFE (low frequency effects channel). Sub in an headphone situation is void because sub refers to "subsonic" (below audible threshold.)

Don't think that buying anything off ebay or anywhere else will ever turn these into surround sound other than simulated surround headsets, due to the amount of "speakers" and the two channel connection it will only ever be "Stereo".
