Cheap flights to Hong kong/Taiwan

Hi,

I am planning a family trip to Taiwan & Hong Kong around Nov this year.
Though it is still months away would like to start planning and booking flights if any good deals come along.
Checked Zuji and got abt $1500 (Cathay) for SYD->TPE->HKG->SYD route.

Does anyone know where I can get cheaper prices? Should I wait till later this year for better deals?
Would it be possible to get a deal for around $1000 mark for the month of Nov?.

Thanks all for your help :)

  • $1500 is a pretty good price. I was going to suggest Air Asia but given you'd still have to book SYD -> MEL/OOL return and sort out HKG -> TPE, I think any savings would be negligible. Not to mention the extra flight just to save a few bucks.

$1000 is very unlikely although not unheard of. I flew Virgin Atlantic from Syd -> HKG for $450 per person return cause they were having a companion air fare sale a while ago and given that HKG -> TPE is about $500 return it's certainly possible.

Personally I would sign up to email alerts for China Airlines, EVA Air, Virgin Atlantic and chuck in Qantas as well. If there are any sales coming that would be the best way to be notified of them.

If I were in your situation I would certainly wait a bit before committing to the current price you have.

  • I have very similar travel plans for next month. Flying Cathay I'm going SYD —> HKG —> TPE —> SYD for $1250 (booked about October 18 2010 at the end of a promotion period). I think I got a great deal and so $1500 is pretty good also. Although this time I booked direct from Cathay using their site, I usually find that Zuji has the best prices and have booked with them twice in the past with no complaints. Have a great time!

  • Just another note, a couple of weeks ago I was looking up flights from Australia to Taiwan (only) return. I considered flying to melbourne first (SYD —> MEL) and using air asia (MEL —> TPE). At that time the total came to about AU$700 (including return tickets to melbourne with tiger), for travel dates in February/March 2011. However I have just re-checked the same dates and now it would come to about $1300 (due to changes in the air asia fares rather than syd to mel). This sort of flight plan might be inconvenient if children are involved and does not include HK. I just wanted to let you know about the costs I've come across.

  • try Express Travel: 97646862
they have best fares after ringing around all the agents on paper
all my friends book with them now

  • i would say depending how long u are planning to stay in hkg or taiwan. Which one is your final destination?
I flew with China Airline last year and what they have available most of the time is: ticket from sydney to hong kong via taipei, for either way you can choose to stopover in taiwan for 4 days and 3 nights and all it costs would be around AUD $30. Do you have the dates in your mind? I can check them out for u

  • Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

Will be travelling with infant so trying to keep our flight plan simple. At this stage am favouring flying with Cathay.

Cyncangel: we are looking at traveling btw 15-30th Nov, want to stay in TW abt 8days. However we would prefer not to fly with China Airlines (just a personal preference). Don't mind EVA Airways though but they don't fly from Sydney.

  • Try chinaair, have bought tickets from them for the last 2 years for $750 or so, non peak season though.

For best flight deals to HK, chinese travel agents are your best port of call, most of the time can do much better than travel websites unless you want to fly discount airlines like airasia/jetstar.
