Honda Odyssey Used (2012 or 2014), Dilemma?!

Hi,

Am in the market for a used 7 seater, people mover. I have narrowed down my option to Honda Oddysey.

Dilemma is to spend on:
$19,990 (drive away) on a 2012 Honda Odyssey luxury with 97,467km odo reading or
$32,790 (drive away) on a 2014 Honda Odyssey VTI-L with 73,651km odo reading?

Please share your view on which of the 2 to go for? Any known issues based on ownership? I am based in Victoria, Melb.

What can i expect of Honda engine pass 100,000km mark?

  • Brand new Mitsi Outlander 7 seater $29,999

    • Don't fancy mitsi. Not a proper 7 seater rather it's a 5 + 2. Interior pretty blend too and no rear AC vent

What can i expect of Honda engine pass 100,000km mark?

For it to go another 100,000kms mostly.

    • Agreed . If anything HighandDry is being conservative with that figure . The Odysseys use hondas 2.4lr engine that has been around for years and I have never heard of an issue from them, and in fact they(Honda) still continue to use the same engine and just tweak it . We have a 2006 odyssey purchased new and it's clocked over 333,000kms , car is honestly bulletproof and have never had an issue ( and we don't treat it particularly nicely either ) . We never want to sell it .

As for whichever one to go for I think nicholasfrawleys comment is spot on but of course their is a considerable price difference .

Either way any Odyssey is a great car

Im sure your away, but the 2012 model year is a 4th gen (2009-2012) car whereas the 2013+ are gen 5, massive difference in technology, probably a bit safer and overall, a lot newer than the 2 years suggests

Something like this is better than both options

    • Your recommendation is good except that it's black. I own a black colour car atm. It's rather difficult to maintain. Looking for a lighter colour for a change I.e silver or white.

    not really a Dilemma.

a dilemma is more like "you're on a sinking ship and there are only 10 spaces in the lifeboat, but there are 11 passengers"

    • In a group of 11 people, I'm at least stronger than one other person. How's this a dilemma?

      • Other 10 passengers are the contestants from The Ultimate Fighter.

        Dilemma….

        • Hahaha…. I think I'm relatively fit, but I don't think that'd be much of a dilemma either. Just in the opposite direction.

I might be wrong in using the word dilemma.

      • now that's a dilemma.

        and here is another dilemma

        • Emma Watson ofc!

        • Why is "dilemma" not the first word to come to mind when I see that pic?

  • What about a used Kia Carnival? At least it will have some warranty left on it.

    • High consumption. Oddyssey cheaper to run and the higher spec is within my reach.

  • I just brough a used 2016 60K VTI-L from dealer for $31,000. You have more bargaining work to do.

    • Which dealer? U must have got some superb deal there. What was the listed price and how much you negotiated? Some tips will be helpful.

      • A dealer at Orange,NSW advertised at $32,800 and get it down to $30,800.

As i reside at Sydney Metro, I get to the price point before driving up and do the local check and drive the car back.

as the car was used in region so high KM did not put me off and I use this to bring the price down.

        • What's the odo reading when you bought it?

        • @HL2: 59140KM to be precise

  • 2012 model is the old body shape. To all those who have voted for that one. Ignore the price for a second… Looks like the 2014 has way more technology.

The other thing I'd say is that https://www.carsales.com.au/demo/details/Honda-Odyssey-2018/…

    Is not that much more.

For a brand new car with 7 years of warranty / fixed servicing $15K isn't that much more. Can you save up for a little more and see what can be done? That would be my suggestion.

    • That will take me quite some time unfortunately. My budget is only $35k Max. Preferably $30k.

    • $15k might not be that much, but compared to $20k, it's 75% more. Is the 2014 model 75% more car?

(Really though, it depends on what OP wants/needs/prefers in terms of features vs value)

      • Honestly speaking, want features and need value. Tough choice.

  • I do wonder why the 2012 have more vote… Did many pick it on price?

    • Dont go for the old model as you will regret it if you have two car seat.

We have two car seats and need to put both in the middle row so no other people mover can fit two car seat in the middle and other people still able to get to the back seat.

We are family of 4 so the back seat will not be used most of the time and the boot space is huge.

  • What about the toyota estima?

    • Costly insurance based on my research. I've look at Tarago too but reckon oddyssey looks much more better in and out. Subjective view.

  • I bough a 2015 vti l last year with 31k. It was a 2015 with less than 30k kilometers.
    Private sale, genuine family owner.

    Great car!

Shop around and have patience. This type/model of car is not very common for sale and there's a reason for this.

    • What was their listing price and the car location?

  • Asking price was $35k and location was Blackburn.
