Off-Net Internet Options

Hi All,

I live in Camden (outskirts of Sydney), and I am one of the only houses in our suburb that doesn't have NBN, and it doesnt look like it will anytime soon.

I am therefore 'stuck' with adsl 2+ (off-net / telstra wholesalers), but currently paying $65 (dodo unlimited) and $27-ish for the phone line through telstra (that isnt even plugged in) so wondering if there is better options? I have tried searching here and on adsl2exchanges but nothing really pops up.

What isps offer off-net and anyone know of any reasonable deals? or sites that will actually compare the offers? (I know i am going to get ripped either way, but hoping not as bad as I am currently)

Cheers

  • What is the speed of your ADSL now and what do you use it for?

There are providers that offer wireless internet that might meet your needs.

    • Just did a speed test (11.4mb down and .89mb up). That was mid week , middle of the day though. It can get pretty bad at 7pm

Mainly using it to stream, occasional download and browse.. not much gaming these days …

My house also doesnt have great reception - vodafone is actually the best , so guessing this would effect the wireless performance?

      • depends on the providers and type of technology they are using.
Optus & Vivid rely on mobile broadbands

Other suppliers like hyperwave, unity and lightening broadband use other technologies.

Might be worth googling wireless broadband and seeing which supplier covers your areas.

        • Cool thanks Dasher.. Will do. Appreciate your help

        • do you know if adsl speed affected by peak hrs usage ?

surely no ? as there ain't CVC whatever bandwidth capping ?
