I have a PS3 and a samsung 46" LED TV. I am looking to buy a surround system but i dont have a big budget. I am thinking to buy the Z5500 speaker set. I am pretty sure these doesnt have HDMI ports. I guess i have to connect PS3 - TV via HDMI and then TV - Z5500 through optical. Will this work fine and how good are these speakers when playing blu rays?????? Please help.
Thanks for the reply. I live in an apartment and I cannot be too picky as I cannot play it really loud anyways. So is it generally ok with the surround sound for my blu rays??? I am not much in to gaming at the moment.
on comparison you need to spend $500+ to get similar quality audio to the Z5500 at 7.1 and a big sub.
For the price logitechshop puts them on special, its a must buy.
I haven't googled it recently, and hoping Samsung have probably fixed in their recent TV models/series…but you may want to double-check that the optical out from your Samsung is actually 5.1 and not Stereo or 2.1.
I know on my 2008 Samsung 32" LCD, i was surprised to read in the manual that it has HDMI in and optical out, but that the optical out is only stereo.
So as a result, I've enabled the multi-audio output option on the PS3, which simultaneously outputs sound via HDMI and Optical (but via this multi-audio output mode, HDMI is limited to stereo). I've got PS3-HDMI-TV for video (and if i don't care about sound i can just use stereo from the TV's speakers), and PS3-Optical-z5400's if I want 5.1 audio.

Yeah I've got my z5500 plugged into the TV via optical and my ps3 to tv via HDMI and it works fine.
Quality wise, well how picky are you with audio? The z5500 are highly rated on the internet and seem to be always in demand.
