Wilson Parking Absurd Dishonour Fees

So last year I took advantage of the $50 free Wilson Parking credit that was posted here. Used it once, then seven months later I used it again. Turns out the credit expires after six months and the second time I used it, it debited me $10.

The bank account that was set up as a direct debit was invalid and for the last five months, they have kept attempting to retrieve that $10 and Wilson parking slapped on an extra $20 dishonour fee every time. It has now racked up to almost $100 in "dishonour fees"

They have sent me statements every month but because I didn't know my credit expired, I never even paid attention to this.

Not a big amount of money but kinda bullshit in my eyes anyway. Thoughts?

Can you maybe claim the Wilson card was thrown away and someone must have found it and used it? The bank can't charge you in that case surely?

Edit: do you mean Wilson were the ones with the dishonour fee? You can probably say the same to them? Unless they have photographic evidence of cars that go into that parking lot

  • Wilson parking is charging $20 dishonour fee every month because my direct debit details keep failing. They attempted to debit $10 from my bank which failed. Next month they attempt to debit $30 which of course will fail because the account is closed. This has carried on for the last half a year

Everyone should boycott direct debits as much as possible.

    • But then you need to be organised and pay all your bills on time or they hit you with late fees.

  • Call them on their BS.

(I know Wilson isn't a council but I'm sure you can find the info you need on that site)

  • Sent them an email, they sent me back a payment notice. Any idea if there's a special ombudsman for these type of companies?

    • Nope, you have to (as I said) call them on their BS yourself.

    • When you say they sent back a payment notice, was this in direct response to your email or was it some other automated process?

Did you email [email protected]? (being the email they provide in their T&Cs)

I would try contacting them 2-3 times and if they do not respond, or refuse to reduce the fees to something sensible, I'd follow up with Fair Trading.

Whatever you do don't let it keep growing. The last thing you want is for them to rack up $hundreds then sell the debt to some debt collector, which is implied in the T&Cs.

2.15 Any costs incurred by Wilson Parking in connection with a breach of this Agreement by the Customer or any Parker, including legal costs, debt collection agency costs, commissions and GST, must be paid by the Customer within 7 days of written notice by Wilson Parking.

The whole operation seems poor, from the sign up process being completely busted, to there being no reference to the direct debit failure fee (that I can find).

Appreciate the heads up in any case and would love to know how it pans out for you. I might just close my account thanks to your post, it's not worth the hassle.

      • They emailed the payment notice in response to my email. Sent them an email again and they budged this time. I offered to pay my $10 and one lot of dishonour fees for a total of $30. The consultant accepted but he will have to ask the billing team to waive the remaining out of "goodwill". We'll see how they fair this week

  • No doubt Wilson Parking just passing on "Absurd Dishonour Fees" that are levied on business customers.

Wilson Parking are the worst. Once I had to pay full rate about $60, or wait till 4PM to pay early bird rate $10, never used them again.

    This should be illegal.
