    I love a standard len

    • Definitely has to be just one len, though. Any more ruins it.

I know it's up for me if you steal my sunshine

    • How clear is the projection? Do i need to wear my contact len?

    Best projector I've ever used/seen/owned. At $2.5k it's a bargain, it's usually around $4k I believe.

  • Alas, high input lag makes this a poor choice for gaming.

    • Acer z650 is less than this though …

  • In the market but know nothing. This seems to be from 2016… is there better value with newer models?

    • IMO, I've done extensive research/reading over the years (read below).
"is there better value with newer models?"
Not at this price, at the level of Quality this is, you may find matching 'numbers' but not the quality of this, this is a good deal for those in the market.

This or the 1500$ 4k projector???

    http://shop.benq.com.au/w1700-refurbished.html

    • I got excited when I heard about the W1700 but the lack of vertical or horizontal lens shifting is a deal breaker.

You know what i dont understand….. its made by BENQ and the carton is damaged….. why not just get a new box?

    • probably because this is sold by BENQ Aus whereas they were manufactured in China so it cost too much to ship it back to the factory to re-box…

      • +3

according to the rrp its a $2599 box.

        • +2

It's a BENQ box, you can't just use any box.

It is also another artificial way to discount via alternative channel to market without disrupting their existing reseller base. The cartons are often not damaged at all. Vendors will have to meet their sales numbers so they just stuff the channel with even more stock and this is a semi common method.

  • Been in the market for a projector.. this or a 4K one?

    • Personally, I'd go for a decent 4K PJ. If you're going larger than 100" it's worth it. I'm waiting to upgrade my W1080ST+ when a decent deal comes out.

Are you really going to feed it enough/alot of 4K content?

If not, this is a very, VERY good deal IMO. Look for a projector that compares not at it's RRP but at this 2K price, I can assure you, you won't.

BenQ continue to provide high end quality projectors at Much lesser prices than the more 'recognised' brands.

      I've owned 2 BenQ projectors;
      First PE8700 (https://www.whathifi.com/benq/pe8700/overview)
I now own the PE8720 model and IMO no need to change yet, I recently replaced the lamp, if I had not, I'd be very tempted by this.
      Read more at https://www.soundandvision.com/content/benq-pe8720-720p-dlp-…).

If you've not owned a projector before, consider throw ratio, i.e. my 8720 is perfect for my room, I maybe miss 2-3 inches in size diagonally at worst.
The projector will fill an 87-inch wide (100-inch diag.) 16:9 screen from a distance of 13-17.75 feet.

      • I stream 4K from Netflix regularly so I would be using it often I think

what about short throw projectors because I'm thinking that would be handy too

  • its only 2k guys, pass. sorry.

  • damn… I need to buy a new house first.

  • This is a single chip DLP projector with significant rainbow effect (source)

But if you don't personally see the rainbow effect, this is a great looking projector at a great price!

I saw the Vivitek HK2288 on display recently at an AV shop. I was blown away. So overpriced on Aus, but like $2k shipped from Amazon US (however I just remembered they're killing access to Amazon US aren't they). For me, I'd wait for 4K. Currently got the w1070, but will wait a few more years.
