Mazda 6 2013 with 169k Km Done Asking $13k. What Do Think OZ Bargainers?

Hi Oz Bargainers,

Really need your advice on this car that I will be inspecting. It's a 2013 Mazda 6 done 170k kms. As per the second owner he bought it from an ex council member from Victoria. The seller has changed the tyres, brakes and battery recently. The car has full log book history. By the way the car's exterior and interior is in mint condition.

I have a Ford Focus but never had a Mazda.

What do u think guys about the Mazda 6 2013 with 170k kms done?
What should I keep in mind while inspecting the car?
And what do u think, should I go for it if the drive and all is ok?

A bit worried about high kms.

Thanks in advance.

Recommend you pay the money for a mechanic to check it out if you think it's a good deal. All the detail will be in the enjoin and hopefully a good mechanic will be able to find any major issues

you want the new shape - but yeah, high KMs

a quick look on car sales shows plenty of 2011 + 2012 with less than !00,000 for around the price.

I'd go for a the lower KM vehicles.

how's your ford focus going? you could wait a year or two and then the second hand new shape mazdas will be less expensive and you could pick up something with way less KMs at a far cheaper price.

    Too much.

Too much, and km's too high. Cost of maintenance may increase due to high KM's.

Plenty of other options out there, but I'm not going to recommend, in fear of getting negged for my choices lol.

Too many kms, I wouldn’t buy it :)

30k a year is too much, if it is in the regions then different story

"bit worried about the high kms" = already your doubting this car = don't buy it.

Yes, the KMS are too high and it is a 4 cylinder & Mazda = imported, expensive parts etc etc… if it was a six ..like a falcon or Commodore then it will be OK IMO.

    Cheers

  • I would be looking for around 10k or less. Have someone check the car over. I expect the engine to be fine, may have to look at suspension for any indication of rough driving and check all electrical components are working. Modern cars, especially Mazda, are fairly reliable and as long as it has a full service history it should be good more many more km.

At that sort of KMs, the car is approaching big repairs. Too many KMs.

Do what he did and buy ex govt / council from Pickles and buy one with 50,000km with similar coin. Pick the right car and you'll also get balance of new car warranty. We bought our kids cars that way, faultless Subaru and Cruze for not much at all.

I know that the engine has a timing chain so that's one good thing going for it. You won't need to worry about changing a timing belt every 100,000ks.

Pretty sure you will have to do a big service at 200,000 anyway so factor that in.

    • What would you need to change at 200km?

Way too high KMs imo. Especially for a 2013 model, you'd want something with… half that.

  • once you hit 200k's you have trouble selling it (within 1-2 years of driving). most people won't even touch it, If it was dirt cheap maybe do you think 13k is cheap?

So many questions on this post.

    1. Which spec is the Mazda 6
    2. Which body shape is the Mazda 6
    3. how much rego is there left?
    4. what is the value of the tyres they put on?
    5. Battery is only worth approx. $200
    6. Is it petrol or diesel?

169,000 km in 6 years is a lot of miles per year. What kind of driving were they done (i.e. freeway or city driving?)
Freeway driving would be ideal because city driving (aka. pothole city) will wear out the suspension bushing.

    1. Have the suspension bushing been checked for tears?
    2. Is it 2013 model or 2013 build?

2013 is the non-turbo engine, which are generally low maintenance and will see many more miles.

Like I said, many questions to be asked

  • Gee the OP forgot to respond.
