Recent Lenovo Miix Broke. Advice on Warranty? + Looking for a Cheap Replacement Laptop for Uni

Hey guys,

I'm a poor university student who has had bad luck with laptops. I bought a lenovo miix at the end of last year from JW computers and was told it had 1 year warranty. <6 months in, the laptop is messing up (BSOD - stop code with uncorrectable error). I have checked my serial number on lenovo and they said the warranty actually expired before the date of purchase? Is there anything I can do about this?

Otherwise since my uni break is finishing soon, I kinda need a replacement laptop. Was wondering if people had any suggestions for a relatively cheap laptop? Ideally something with a decent battery life and lightweight <1.5kg?

I was looking at the Lenovo V730 (https://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/lenovo/lenovo-v-series…), but just seems a little out of my price range.

Thanks a lot guys.

Is this after the Windows 10 1803 update? I had the exact same problem with mine, however my laptop ended up needing a MB and SSD replacement as I explained in the previous deal. Before I sent it out for repair, I was advised to do a system restore back to an earlier date. That didn't fix it for me, but it might for you. You can also try speaking to one of the representatives via live chat to get some advice.

    • Thanks for the reply.

When was the 1803 update? It started having this issue a few days ago.

I'll give this a shot now (I haven't had much luck booting to my desktop - I can't seem to get past this BSOD)

      EDIT: did not work :(

As JW Computers is an Australian company they are obligated to comply with Australian law, which includes providing a statutory warranty under which you would be covered. This will require you to send the laptop back to them for repair, however this would be covered by them.

The issue will be how long that will take them and if you require a laptop for uni then this may impact you. Either way I would contact them and ask them how they would like to deal with it and how long they expect the repair to take.

    • Thanks a lot, was worried and thought I'd be left in the dark with this.

Will let you know what they say. Because I start uni soon, I think I might need to cop the cash and just get a cheapish laptop to use for the time being :(

      • If they told you it's a brand new unit, then they now have trouble.
