Help Me Buy Gamin/General Use Headphones

Hey Guys,

I just bought a Xbox one, trying to figure out which headphones to buy. As i dont use headphones that much currently i have in ear headphones that do the job but they are painful for long hour use and dont have a mic for xbox use.

I am looking for headphones around $100 that are comfortable and Noise cancellation would be a big plus but at this price its difficult to get so will make do.

Also do noise cancelling headphones work with Xbox controllers?

noise cancelling headphones work with Xbox controllers?

Noise cancelling headphones don't rely on an attached device to cancel noise. It's a purpose built computer built into the headphones themselves that detect noise through a set of microphones and then play back a reverse sound wave to cancel out the outside noise.

remember for voice chat to work, you need headphones that follow a specific TRRS pinout. My Logitech UE4000's use 'iPhone' style pin outs and the mic doesn't work, but my Xiaomi headphones do.

    • Oh ok. Any recommendations?

Turtle Beach, Kingston Hyper X Cloud series, Razer kraken etc

Take note that gaming headphones are usually comfier to wear for long periods of time and "usually" have an attached boom microphone that folds away or detaches when not in use.

Some are USB based (cannot use for Xbox) and some have normal 3.5mm jacks.

        • Thanks fro your reply and recommendations. Would you recommend using Audio Technia ATH M50x or Sony 1000mx2 for gaming? Waiting for these to get cheaper.

        • @morpheous:
ATH m50x has been the same price for years. Always around $150. Great headphones, but no mic.

if a budget is your main focus, go for something on amazon US before july 1st, such as this

I currently have the HyperX Cloud Alpha used with the Turtle Beach headset adapter (for volume/mix adjustments and mic monitoring) and they are great. Being closed back, they isolate well and are great for not interrupting others as the sound doesn't leak. You can remove the mic if you just need headphones. They are $169 from JB but have been on sale for about $100 previously - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/352341. Other options which I haven't tried are the HyperX Stinger, HyperX Cloud 2, or HyperX Revolver.

Other options would be Turtle Beach (Recon 50X and up), Plantronics (400 or 500 and up) or Astro (A10 and up).

The ATH M50x are great headphones but as mentioned previously, they don't come with a mic, however you could get the V Moda Pro boom mic for about $50 extra which provides a mic for any headphones without a mic.

Open headphones may give a better soundstage but the isolation isn't as strong and sound leaks to the outside. If you're ok with that, then a suggestion here may be the SHP9500 with a V Moda mic.
