Monitor for Programming/Office

Hi Oz Bargainers,

I am thinking of getting a 27 or 34 inch monitor for programming/office and occasional gaming purposes.

In the past, I have been a fan of Dell Ultrasharp IPS monitor.

What are your thoughts and what would you recommend for something under $700?

Thanks very much.

  • I've been using the Dell UH271H for almost 3 years now, no complaints. 27" 1440p @ 60hz is the sweet spot for me, and I love the slim bezel design. Think I paid just under $700 back then, think the best price these days are around $550.

    get an AOC.

    inexpensive, but damn decent.

I have dual 22" monitor for my home "work" computer.

you can get a 27" for $199 delivered (less if using a code) - $184 delivered from Futu Online with PAMPER20

I'm cheap. I found my first monitor during hard rubbish. the second I grabbed off ebay second hand for $10. (both the same model) a total score.

    • Cheap for 1ms 27inch monitor. Any downsides?

    • Teaxh me senpaix or help me find a monitor I need one for my new rig i7-2600 GTX 1050ti 32gb ddr3 ram build coming on Friday.

Honestly don't mind anything 1080p/1440p 69hz 100hz whatever just anything probably around 25 inches or higher

Having gotten a 29" ultrawide display, I wouldn't go back to normal widescreen. You can more comfortably have 2 windows open side by side, something which I used to do with 2 monitors.

I wouldn't go less than 29" for ultrawide (since obviously you lose vertical height relative to the increased horizontal).

You can get the LG 29" ultrawide for roughly $300 with the discount code including express delivery:

The 34" can be gotten for less than $500.

      Hi RJK,

I have been seriously considering ultrawide as well. Good to hear your view on this. Should be great display code side by side and still have the Browser open.

      Cheers.

  • I highly recommend the LG 34UC98. The IPS panel is amazing.

      Hi Ryanek,

Is curved monitor worth paying extra for? My understanding is that it's great for gaming and waching movies. For general purpose work, is it making a difference?

      • For TV's it's a gimmick but for monitors of this size a curved space is great. Unless you do photo/video editing work that requires straight lines then it's worth it IMO.

Have you also tried to code with a monitor that goes portrait instead of landscape? Easier to skim through codes.

    • Hi xaykegeki,

I plan to use my existing 22 inch Dell for portrait mode for code display, and the new monitor for other screens like webpage, console, etc.

      Thanks!
