Looking for a TV box with seemless H.265 playback

As in the title - all I care about is that the TV box can play H.265 video files perfectly.

I won't really be using it for anything else. Any ideas?

  • NVIDIA Shield TV plays anything I throw at it without breaking a sweat. Overclocked Raspberry pi 3 with Kodi will play 1080 h265 reasonably well but the temperature warning is regularly on the screen.

  • +1 for the shield.Tried multiple Tv boxes with limited success. Shield does everything

  • +1

xbox 1 x goes all right if you need a total solution. Doesnt it all depend on the stream though? I have a basic box and that plays everything fine if I get the right stream.

  • Idk if it'll do it but you could get Telstra tv 2 for $9.95 if you do the jb Telstra deal.

Just cancel before the second month.

  • Are we talking H265 in 1080p, 4K, 8K?

I've got an Intel Celeron NUC with LibreElec installed that does 1080p H265 perfectly.

I don't have a 4K TV so can't comment on the higher resolutions.

  • I have a Sony that runs Android which manages to do this using VLC and other video apps. Doesn't seem to have any issues with hevc even at 4k.
I'd suggest something running Android from eBay like a MS8+

  • I had the same requirements as you a few months ago and ended up buying an xbox one s for $199. It supports hardware decoding of x265 4K content flawlessly, and is a great all round unit. it's a lot quieter and more energy efficient than my PS4 pro, so perfect for steaming, playing 4K HEVC torrents and 4K netflix etc.

  • Interesting comments. Thanks. I like the fact that all of you gave me some out of the box advice.

I'm actually in the market for a TV as well. Does anyone know if the Kogan smart TVs can handle h.265 at 1080p?
