Mel - Bali: New year period - expected prices

I am looking to fly from Melbourne to Bali for a week around New years.

Timing is relatively flexible with any departure date between 26th - 31st December and return approx. 1 week later.

Happy to do 6 or 8 days depending on cheapest flight.

Cheapest return flight (Jetstar) I've found is $884 and ranging up to $1,200 (still jet star) depending on flight times.

I've never flown during this period before and expected it to be more expensive but not anywhere this level.

Last time flying to bali cost was $320 return (Sept 2016, jet star, on sale)

What's a realistic price to expect to pay during this period?
Or what have others paid in the past?

Thanks in advance

  • Sounds about right. You won't get any cheaper flights for the peak Christmas holiday period unless you book a year and a half in advance. September 2016 was significantly cheaper because that's when school kids and uni students are not let out yet.

  • No real such things as sale fares over the period you have prescribed. If you left after Jan 2 it might get cheaper but are still within school holidays. Pull the trigger at $800

  • Thanks for the advice and providing some insight
