Velocity Rewards Vs KrisFlyer Miles

I am looking at booking return trip to Singapore for 3 people.

Can anyone advise whether i would be better booking through Velocity Rewards or converting my Velocity Rewards to KrisFlyer miles and booking through Singapore air? Not sure which way would use the least amount of points!

thanks in advance for any tips, ideas or help!

Are you flying business class? If so, converting to KrisFlyer will generally be better value. (you will have to do the calculations yourself to compare both options)

For economy class, you're better of selling your points and using the proceeds to book on a LCC.

    • According to your link, redemption with straight Velocity points is cheaper than converting to Krisflyer for all class from SYD/MEL to SIN

What's the route, class and dates? We can help you compare that way.

Generally KrisFlyer has better availability than Velocity - that's one thing to consider.

For some routes and classes, it's actually cheaper to book through Velocity. For others, KrisFlyer will be cheaper.

    • looking at Melbourne - Singapore; economy (would love business but don't have enough points!) and looking at around 14th Oct-24th Oct (dates are flexible within Oct though)
      Appreciate the help!

Just using your dates as a guide:

    MEL-SIN 14 Oct

    • Velocity only has one flight available (5:50pm departure) - 35,000 points + $85.58 taxes
    • KrisFlyer has three flights available (1:05am, 5:50pm & 7:25pm departures) - 28,000 miles + $85.58 taxes

    SIN-MEL 24 Oct

    • Velocity only has three flights available - 35,000 points + $54.50 taxes
    • KrisFlyer has all five flights available - 28,000 miles + $54.50 taxes

So overall, Velocity has less availability than KrisFlyer. However it is cheaper to book through Velocity, as it's only 35,000 points.

You'd need to convert 37,800 Velocity points to get 28,000 KrisFlyer miles. I'd only do this if a flight you want is only available through KrisFlyer/

    • That’s awesome. Thank you so much for your help.

    • Would you know the points required for business class between 22 Oct - 16 Nov on flights between Sydney and Singapore for both Virgin and Singapore airline?

Availability for one passenger, Sydney to Singapore return in Business Class:

        Sydney to Singapore 22 Oct

        • On Velocity: 7:05pm departure only - 65,000 Velocity points + $91.73
        • On KrisFlyer: 8:55am, 4:00pm and 7:05pm departures - 58,000 KrisFlyer miles or 78,300 Velocity points + $91.73

        Singapore to Sydney 16 Nov

        • On Velocity: 7:05am departure only - 65,000 Velocity points + $78.83
        • On KrisFlyer: 12:45am, 7:05am, 9:35am, 10:30am, 8:40pm departures - 58,000 KrisFlyer miles or 78,300 Velocity points + $78.83

Conclusion: Book directly through Velocity for the cheapest rates, if the single flight availability suits you. Otherwise, you will need to spend an extra 13,300 Velocity points to transfer to KrisFlyer and choose from their larger range of available flights.

        • Thanks mate.

        • @arctan: If you want to use Velocity for SQ flights, give them a call. They've got more availability than the website shows.

        • @nubix:

          Thanks for the tip!

  • I guess the good thing about Krisfly is the free stopover on business class redemption. Has anyone used this previously?
