Looking for cheaper "expensive" shampoo

Looking for an online seller of hair products, ie shampoo. The good wife uses this stuff from the hairdressers that cost $40 and only 290ml, I kid u not. I freaked out when she told me. Anyone know of any places that seel beauty stuff cheaper than retail.

  • the hairdresser's shampoo and conditioner is not any different to any other shampoo and conditoner(sc) on any supermarkets

the reason why your wife any many other people buy these expensive sc is because the hairdresser promotes their sc and say that the retail's(woolies, coles, etc) sc do bad for your hair

just buy a couple of sc such as pantene, sunsilk, etc and blind test it with your wife and see which is better

    the results could be interesting

    • Ugh, I wouldn't use Pantene if someone handed it to me for free. Sunsilk is tolerable.

I'm also a hair snob - a lot of the cheaper shampoos strip your hair, and cheaper conditioners leave a lot of residue behind ie. cheaper "smoothing" products are simply full of silicones which weigh your hair down. If my hubby blind tested me or swapped in cheaper stuff I'd kick his ass.

  • +1

Try the strawberrynet. They are cheaper than the hairdresser with free shipping.

    Also ry.com.au.

Hairhouse Warehouse and Price Attack stores also have good multipacks which can reduce the cost down and you might get bonus products.

It really depends on which product you are after, some are probably harder to find than others.

    • Hairhouse Warehouse

Would recommend this. Extensive range and their prices are often competitive on salon range products. They are often much cheaper than what you can find in hair salons.

  • Holy crap $40 for 1/4 litre. Does it come with a person to personally wash your hair?

I like issh's idea, buy a few different types and see which one she likes. Perhaps place them in unmarked containers and do a blind test.

  • Thanks so far for all the replies. Should clarify it is "just not shampoo/conditioner", as my wife says it is "anti frizz blah blah blah", so I guess it is something you cannot just get from the supermarket.

    • There's plenty off supermarket shampoo/conditioners that promote straight hair/frizz

      • yeah, there are ones that are like "shiny hair" "straight" so many to choose, but not sure if it works, it could just be a marketing scheme

  • My hairdresser relo's tell me that at home they use either Coles or GoLo "Organic" cheap branded shampoo…they reckon just grab the one that doesn't list 'sodium laureth sulfate'* as an ingredient & you'll be sweet! Salon products are grossly overpriced & overrated! ;)

  • If you can tell us the name of the product/s she is using it might help to track down a cheaper supply rather than swapping to supermarket stuff.

Sorry guys, but some things are sacred. This sort of argument to me is like asking hubby to put home brand oil in the brand new car. He'd be incredulous and that's how I'd feel if I was asked to downgrade either my haircare or skincare. It's not an option, unless I simply couldn't afford it.
