Internet failing expectations, what can I do?

I am paying $80 per month for Telstra 500gb data, expecting up to 25mbps (ADSL 2).

Last two weeks internet DL speed has been around 0.03mps to 1.3mgbps no change on Ethernet or wireless.

I have contacted Telstra regarding issue and had a technician sent out. They said if it was issue within my home I would have to pay around $200 for call-out unless issue is outside. The issue was apparently outside. Only other thing Telstra mentioned was there has been 1-3 outages within the month.

Still no change in download speeds unfortunately, what else can I do? Will a less advertised internet provider be faster as less congested?

Telstra also mentioned NBN will be in my area by the end of the year. Don't want to wait that long with max 1 mbps.

If I missed any info that may help let me know.

Tldr: internet speeds low as 0.03 mbps what can/should I do??

*Only works when you use an Irish accent.

  • Maybe try hot spotting from the mobile. Gives me great speeds

    • I would agree but limited data on phone as per the amount paying for data to internet provider.

      • True, having said that there are some great deals on here…

    complain to tio
get tech out again and make him test from your box on side of wall or at the pit. write down the speed.
check here to see expected speeds.
has it always been like this?
i think adsl is minimum 1mbps. you may have grounds to cancel

    • Usually around 6-10 mbps wireless I will complain to tio asap.

  • Tldr: internet speeds low as 0.03 mbps what can/should I do??

Thats within the 'up to' claim.

But what are your modem sync stats? Is it a line issue or a congestion issue. Thats the question.

    • After online chat with Telstra the minimum is 6 mbps. How do I find out the information you are asking? The technician found an issue within the line, I assume he had fixed but no change in speeds.

      • head to your routers homepage and look for the sync speeds section.

        • Okay will have a look later when I'm at home.

Go through Telstra Complaint process rather than fault and see if get any better results.

    • Definitely try this! They usually call within a day or two and should follow it up!

    what can I do

I know this won't help you now but you can vote no to Turnbull or the Liberal Party. And since Labour's record of reversing Liberal's disaster's is just about nil you can not vote for them as well. They won't fix anything because they share of lot of donors.

Turnbull is a man who came in claiming that NBN's cost of 42 billion dollars under Labour was too much and spouted the usual dribble about the private sector being cheaper and providing better service despite the disaster that is the telco industry, the electricity industry, the gas industry, the public transport disaster which are all transferring your money to the wealthiest entities in Australia thanks to privatisation.

The current NBN bill is 98 billion dollars. Nine billion dollars of this was spent buying Telstra's copper wires instead of laying fibre. Telstra was then awarded the "maintenance contract" for the asset they just sold and set about replacing the copper wire instead of using fibre. And now you are facing the results: a copper wire ADSL network that is getting slowly replaced so Telstra gets even wealthier from your money, and the costs are up to 98 billion dollars.

That's your money going to Telstra for the great service that for profit entities provide. Joking. But remember what the current parties told you about privatisation and that it is a disaster now and change your vote.

    • Nine billion dollars of this was spent buying Telstra's copper wires instead of laying fibre.

constructing fibre would cost more than hfc. nbn got the network for a bargain.

  • ADSL is all about your phone line - its quality and the distance from the telephone exchange. How far away is the exchange? Perhaps the phone cables within your house is damaged and you can get that replaced relatively cheaply by an electrician.

Don’t expect a lot from ADSL - I pay Telstra $80 a month for 1TB of cable at 55mbs. Is Telstra cable available where you are?

  • Line of Sight: 1352 m
    Estimated Cable: 2096 m

There was an unknown company working opposite of my house digging up and doing work out the front of my neighbours house. The neighbours did ask me if my home phone is playing up but I don't have my home phone plugged in. Issues arisen after the work was done.
