Soundproof Door in Sydney

Hey fellow Oz bargainers,

Can anyone please recommend me a place in Sydney where I can find good quality soundproof door (for the front/back door of my house) at reasonable low price? I live on the main road so I'm hoping to block out the noise from the cars outside.

Thanks in advance!

Is it for your torture room?

    • it's alf stewart looking to renovate his r@pe dungeon

  • By any chance this is for a laundry?

    • This is for my front door and back door as I live on the main road.

      • Try door seals on the edges. You'd be surprised how much noise goes through the gaps. The typical front door material is already pretty good and you won't get much improvement there.

Your cheapest solution will be a 40mm or 45mm solid core door fitted to opening size i.e. no big gaps at bottom and sides. Acoustic rated doors with acoustic door seals are VERY expensive.

    • If you cannot find it on this side of the world at a decent price, you can always make one yourself out of a composite of layers, I imagine a frame made from dense timber or alloy extrusion with alfoil an outer reflective/maintenance free surface glued to a slightly softer layer of timber or a sound-absorbent (and fire-rated even) material, then some masonite and acoustic foam plus as many more layers of these as you can until you get to your maximum thickness inside which you fit the internal surface that will durably support your desired interior finish.

Look at using sheets of alfoil between each layer as this will give it great thermal properties and help reflect sound too. Best to search online for the best sound insulation methods, though. Let us know what you come up with!

  • Nice try Fritzl

  • before replacing the doors
try filling in the gaps with closed cell foam strips
you can get em at your local clark rubber store
in different lengths and thickness to suit your application
