Best Courier to Organise a Pick up and Delivery from VIC to WA

Hi,

I need to organise a courier to pick up a (packaged) mountain bike (value $1.5k) from VIC (3121) to WA (6333), what would be my best go?

Cheers

  • Ask a truckie to deliver it for you for a 6 pack

I use Transdirect.com.au for 90% of my stuff these days.

    Maybe officeworks parcel service

I'm happy to ride it from 3121 to 6333. Was heading that way anyway.

  • Don't be lazy, you can cycle that easy.

  • I use E-Go for all my low to medium value large items. Worth a quote, but I’d definitely be insuring it if using them (I’ve never had an issue, but they are a budget carrier).

  • This is timeline 0. In this timeline I've quit my job, sold all my belongings, left my kids with a semi responsible person and flown off to Victoria for the ride of my life… I'll post impressions back in roughly 4 months.

  • This is timeline 1, in which case I resist the urge to fly off and look at the other options (I assuming "cycle inter state" is one of the "other" voted options):

    • transdirect ($430 lowest), Interparcel ($414) & Temando ($380) come up with similar ballpark quotes from Allied Express
    • AusPost don't appear to accept packages that are more than 105cm (a bike box is around 150)
    • Sendle don't appear to accept packages that are more than 120cm
    • E-Go doesn't have a non express service to regional areas

I know there must be cheaper options as most bike shops offer $99 shipping… But what are they?

    • Bike shops get bulk discounts…
You can always try and go to a bike shop that does ship and pay them $200 if it cost then $99?

      • Yeah talked with a few bike shops, they say they pay the same prices.

        • Yarrah Valley Cycles did actually have a commercial courier agreement which made shipping to regional WA about $80-100 cheaper (~25%). When shipping to Perth Metro there was no difference.

  • OK cheapest option ended up booking through Transdirect to Perth Metro to a business address (a bike shop). I was lucky that pickup was from a business address and so delivery was only $98 with another $12 for insurance. I'll still have to go to Perth to get it but saved a chunk of money. Happy days!

If I couldn't deliver business to business, then the cheapest option was still Transdirect (especially the insurance is very cheap!) probably followed by Temando and then E-Go, Interparcel and Smart Send (in no particular order).

    Thanks to everyone's input!
