The underlying material is Brass and coated in Rhodium.

I can recommend Neverland Sales as they post quickly, pack the products exceptionally well for the price and have done so consistently at a very low price point. I can't speak to whether their RRP and sale prices are actually sale prices but I have been very happy with the quality.
Perhaps back in 2013 when the reviews were written on @KnightSirvivor's link the reviews may have been accurate, but that was FIVE (5) years ago. Can't agree with your comments that this is too good to be true, but that is based off of my experience with Neverland Sales.

Get a grip mate. Your complaint is from five years ago. I’ve bought around ten items separately. Never had a problem. All items have been pretty good quality and shipping has been fast.

I don't mean any disrespect putting it on a dog, my dog is my princess and eats better than i do, and has amazing outfits etc.
Oh, no disrespect! My Mother's dog eats white chicken only and sleeps with better pillows than most. You should be fine skin wise to put it on your dog, however, I don't know how the plating will hold up with the enzymes in the dog's saliva.
