Is Amazon.com.au as Crap as It Looks Price Wise?

Every time I get directed to amazon.com.au from google when I'm searching out prices on products, the prices are just absurd. I was looking for a sugar dispenser and one I found that I liked came up as almost $100 plus shipping, which is obviously absurd.

PS4 slim came up at about $900 in one posting.

Should we just be writing it off all round or are there good deals to be found?

I believe you're looking at the wrong products, for your examples you have chosen 3rd party sellers. PS4 Slim $360.05 Delivered, the 1TB was $299 a week ago.

Sugar Dispensers for as low as $12.95 Delivered.

It depends what you're looking for, but yes, they have good prices on a lot of things so far.

Amazon is a market place, if it doesnt say sold by amazon.com.au, then its a 3rd party seller. Just like ebay, there is alot of different sellers and different prices.
Would you blame ebay for some idiot listing something at hugely inflated prices ? Why would you blame amazon for the same thing.

wait until prime day and global shop…

Amazon has this algorithm to rotate the sellers on the same product listings. Those with ridiculous price is most likely happen to be the ones that from overseas. To compare prices you need to click "new from (number of sellers)" link in the listings.

    Told you so…..

I remember prior to Amazon launching so many people were expecting the second coming of the whatever.

In reality… they're no different to everyone else. eBay still has better deals.

You're looking at the 3rd party prices (and doing it wrong).

They're still ramping up their presence in Australia but I've noticed they're been pretty aggressive with video games, matching Ozgameshop's imported prices a good deal of the time I've checked.

Maybe they're unable to match ebay during their frequent 20% off codes, but there's been a flurry of deals from Amazon recently and it's been pretty good.

    • I often do things wrong.

Amazon.com.au appears to be doing it wrong as well because every time I go to google search for stuff and I get an AU Amazon result it's a ridiculously priced one.

I see some fantastic deals popping up every now and then which cannot be matched with FeeBay and the likes. They are moving slowly but its clear that they will have much better offerings soon. Their prime membership inclusions even though not currently on par with the US is still pretty decent to even sway me to considering getting a subscription (I have never signed up to a paid subscription service in my life). They have made so much progress since they first started here, they will only get better. Laugh at the naysayers in year or so.

a rep on their Facebook page said today they were looking at pricing. fingers crossed that means. price matching the US store. I know it will have to be adjusted for the conversion rates.

  • Thanks for the tips folks. I've obviously been doing it wrong.
