  • Seems like a decent torch for the price http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?420649-Review-Thorfire-C8s-Thrower-XM-L2-900-lumens-1x18650-(beam)shots-compare

  • Been meaning to get a couple of these C8s for a while but don't have the rest of the 18650 ecosystem nor do I think I'll ever need to charge raw 18650s moving forward anyway… so with that in mind what do the OzBargain Torch/Battery nerds think about the Fenix ARB L18 3500U? They seem a little too good to be true but also seem to get rave reviews.

Oh interesting. Never knew these existed. That being said, those are button top 18650s so they're a bit longer. Not sure if the C8S will work with these?

And also, there's frequently deals for Nitcore multi chemistry chargers on here so would recommend picking up one of those instead. 18650s are great!

Along the lines of what dust said, they are button top cells and quite long at 70mm so may not fit in a lot of lights. Cool idea, but I'd say you would be better off with a decent 2-bay charger from Nitecore or Xtar for ~$20 and bare cells for $10ish.

      • Yeah, cheers for that. I've bought a heap of C8s (one for me, the rest for gifts) and ONE of the Fenix USB Button Tops just to see if it does fit/work but I've also bought a Nitecore UM20 bundled and two HG2s anyway so all good.

According to the review linked in the previous Amazon deal, it looks like button tops fit this torch.

Long protected batteries fit without problem.

  • Got this torch last deal. Its pretty great for the price (esp if you're already in the 18650 ecosystem). Its a thrower - long range, narrow beam type fyi. Build quality top notch.

  • Thanks for the bargain - was about to pull the trigger at the last posting (at around $24 for bare torch, no battery).

Any idea if this cuts out on low voltage - am new to 18650s but stripped an old laptop battery recently and wanted to try out the cells in something, but not sure if there are any risks associated with their use.

    • It has a low voltage warning (reduce power + flashes). I don't know if it cuts off completely though (I would think so if it has a warning)

  • Anyone know what the odds of fitting a protected button top? 65mm. https://www.techaroundyou.com/index.php?route=product/produc…

Edit:. Never mind, long protected cells seem ok:

    • Scroll up pal.

  • Crap, took too long to decide.

  • Received my 2 torches today and very impressed with them. Seem to be very well built and the light is more than bright enough.
