Dogs?

Hi,
I am looking to buy a sausage dog or a Jack Russell, and i want to find a breeder or a site that lists places where i can buy them from. I don't really need all the papers as we just want a new addition to the family so it doesn't have to be 100% pure and all that crap.

Thanks,
padfoot

Dogs Online is a forum of dog breeders and show people. Even though they breed for show quality, they sell pets too.

First suggestion though would be an animal rescue place. There is the Animal Welfare League up here in QLD. Will definitely be something similar where you are.

  • I have one of each and would recommend a mini sausage dog - the Jack Russell sheds white hair everywhere! I found my daschund on the website petlink.com.au and then had him transported to me using dog movers as noone bred them in my area.

    • Yeah that's what i was thinking. What did you call your dogs? And if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the sausage dog?

      • What did I call them as in name? The Jack Russell is predictably called Spot (named by a kid) the Mini Sausage dog is called Chip - partly cause he is a mini sausage dog, like the mini sausages called Chippolatas and partly because I got him from Casino, NSW. I paid $550 for him without papers. The Jack Russell was $150 purebread without papers.

        • That is an awesome name for a sausage dog!! I love that it has a bit of background info, haha!
So you know how you said that you had him transported… is it safe for the puppy to be sent long distances? I've just checked that site you gave me, and there are no sausage dogs in Victoria!! They all seem to be in NSW!

  • I live in North QLD and I got dog movers to take him from Casino NSW to Brisbane and I flew there and picked him up, becuase dogs fly free on Qantas and I was already going to Brisbane. But Dog Movers take dogs right up the easten side of Australia every day. They give them water etc.

There are also companies that fly dogs. That was more expensive.

When I bought my sausage dog the breeder sent me photos and updates etc. by email. Sausage dogs are totally worth the money!

    • Ahh okay. Thanks for the info. I guess i will have to look into Dog Movers then. I guess i was just hoping that there would be someone near me. Oh well, thanks again!

Also, i was just going to ask if you take your dog to any puppy school or something similar. Is it worth doing something like that?

      • Definitely take your dog to puppy school. Your dog will learn important social skills which will keep you and him happier. Be warned they will train you and not the dog.

  • I think you may find a lot of breeders recently are taking their info offline because thieves are looking up their info and then going round and stealing dogs.

Check the breed club in your state and they will put you in touch with a reputable breeder. You should definitely be able to source a sausage dog without having to go interstate.

Here is the info for the Dachshund Club Victoria. Call the Puppy Sales Officer on the contact us page. Better still they have a rescue and re-home section:

  • Okay i'll look into that, thanks. And i saw you you did there… : You should definitely be able to source a sausage dog"
