Brand New Subaru Forester 2.5i-S 2018 - What Is A Good Price To Buy At?

Hello Subaru-enthusiasts and Car gurus,

Planning to buy Subaru Forester 2.5i-S 2018. This is an outgoing model and newly revamped 2019 model will reach ozland in September. MSRP $44K, dealer advertised price is $39K for the 2018 model.

Wondering what should be good price to buy at keeping in mind it is a run-out model. Though I will not use novated lease, got some quotes with vehicle price $36K. Will $34K be a reasonable offer to start with? Or shall I wait till the new model is launched in September.

Seeking genuine suggestions.

Cheers

Best time to visit a dealer is to go at the very end of the month. Sales reps will try and meet their KPI's and if they need a sale, they will drop their prices.

New model is just simply superior in everyway. What you save now in price, you will pay back in more expensive service intervals, fuel usage and lower resell value.

They are very reliable and haven't changed much in a long time, and are very common, so maybe look at second hand? Even though depreciation on Subaru's is amongst the best you're still gonna lose a heap in the first few years, especially on a last gen model.

If you're buying a Fiat or VW you really want that warranty, it's less important on a Subaru.

    • Try pickles for 2017 forester and save few $k.

That's the problem. This car (all of Subaru's cars) are ancient. They trace their roots back more than 20 years, and they get incremental 'upgrades' like that rubbish CVT they use every half decade or so.

      • This car (all of Subaru's cars) are ancient. They trace their roots back more than 20 years

many euro makes date back pre and post wwii. these makes are true the dinosaurs of the automotive industry. their base models are as expensive when brand new as their service cost is on day one after their warranty expires.

the forester is made in japan which means better craftsmanship than most euro brands.

        • I don't think you have a clue about what I am saying. The models Subaru have on sale, fundamentally share the mechanical components with their 20 year old predecessors. Other brands have moved on. Subaru, not so much. It's part of the reason why they've gone so downmarket compared to the early 1990s.

        • @Burnertoasty:
I own a 09 Forester so I might be biased but it drives so much better than the new X-Trail or current ASX. I don't care how old the architecture is - it's still great.

The CVT in the newer models is really good.

        • @Presence: CVT is not good in any model. But yeah, all the cars you mentioned are shit. If they were my only options, I’d choose the Scooby too. But they aren’t.

        • @Burnertoasty:

So in your opinion, for similar amount of money, which SUV would you choose?

        • @F3ND3R: $40-50k? Grand Cherokee Laredo 4*4. Bad reputation because of reliability issues on the MY15 early cars, but prior and post, reliability is good. Mercedes chassis, all the mod cons, powerful engine, amazing gearbox, actual off-road ability. Also consider Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner, 2nd hand FJ cruiser. Similar money but less of a car a Skoda Kodiak or Tiguan might be an option. (No off-road ability, basically a car on stilts). If I only had mid $30k to buy an SUV, there is only one option, everything else is shit. Wrangler. New model due out imminently, and you’ll be able to pick one up for high $30ks. More car like than previous model.

        • @Burnertoasty:

The only sensible options on your list are the fortuner and fj. However, $40k to $50k should be enough for the best selling 4wd on the used market which is strangely not on your list.

        • @whooah1979: Disagree, but you’re entitled to your incorrect opinion.

    Oh so $5k off

got some quotes with vehicle price $36K.

    Oh $8k off

Will $34K be a reasonable offer to start with?

What did they say when you offered this price?

shall I wait till the new model is launched in September.

You won't be seeing discounts like the above on the NEW model when it comes out for a while.

    • What did they say when you offered this price?
-> I'm yet to visit the dealership
You won't be seeing discounts like the above on the NEW model when it comes out for a while.
-> Yes you are right. But I'm wondering if there'll be bigger discount on the runout model then. Not a big fan of buying new release models too soon, would rather go for the tried and tested one for lesser $K

      • But I'm wondering if there'll be bigger discount on the runout model then

        There normally is…..

      • Did you end up purchasing car?

I just paid for mine 2018 arctic white 2018 Forester 2.5i-S with floor mat, cargo tray (rubber) and boot protector in WA.

$39000 Drive away price including 6month of rego + full tank of petrol.
