Dell OptiPlex 9020 i5-4570 - Reasonable Business Machine?

I need 3 new PCs for the office. Tasks include MS Office and Web, that's about it. Would like it to last say 3 years.

I was looking at getting Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF, Core i5-4570 , 8GB, 256GB SSD- https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-9020-SFF-Core-i5-4…

Is it a reasonable deal? I would like to stick with Dell Optiplex as we have had a good run with then.

Happy to pay a bit more if required but unfortunately, I don't think the newer Dell OptiPlex 7050 series have come out of lease yet.

Yes. Depending on use you may want a RAM or SSD upgrade later. But I would suggest a 4570 should definitely be sufficient.

Check out installing clean windows though.

    • 256GB should be fine.

I thought 8gb of RAM is sufficient.

Thanks for the tips of clean installation.

    • 8gb ram is heaps for an office pc doing Web browsing and office apps. For the next 3 years it will be fine.

SSD might be ok but I'd probably suggest a small NAS or simple file server for a small business over giving local machines bigger disks.

No hyperthreading on i5 4th gen whereas I believe i3-4xxx did have hyperthreading.

But yes, OptiPlex 9020 is a good business machine.

    • Thank you.

  • I have a very similar machine but in an even smaller form factor. Can’t remember the precise model. Probably 9020 micro.

Whether it is a reasonable machine depends on the price.

I sure as hell wouldn’t be paying top dollar.

    • $400 reasonable?

      • I think so. I have an annoying bug with trying to use dual monitors with the system. Intermittently one monitor won’t come back on unless it is power cycled twice. Have never been able to find the fix. Dell’s driver quality is terrible.

        • Built in video card or separate graphics card (or combo of both).

        • @JB1: I haven’t had time to troubleshoot it to work out which one it is.
