  • Oh wow. What games are you looking to play? A 550GT is honestly… well, ancient. And that's coming from someone who's running a 10 year old system (ATi (yes, not AMD) Radeon HD6950 graphics).

At that level you could honestly just try asking on various forums (here, Facebook, Whirlpool, Overclockers AU, etc) if anyone near you is upgrading and if you can just have their old system - and it might still be a decent upgrade.

    • yeh my pc is amd phenomx4 or something its old I just need a slight upgrade so icould still play my old games and not worry about the oldness of my pc

      • Hope it's not running XP or vista, at least..

      • Which games in particular? Because now I'm worried Windows 10 might be too new and your games might not be compatible, and so won't run, on the new system.

      • is the videocard easy to install ? as well as can it support multple HDD on top of the SSD it comes in?

        • Video card is literally plug and play. And yes, most modern motherboards have multiple SATA slots, which is where you plug a HDD into. Make sure that it has enough sata power/data cables though, you may need to buy another

Yup. Video card is plug and play (just remember to plug your monitor into the video card port and not the motherboard port afterwards).

Dell has a tech guide for the system here (no idea as to accuracy but it's directly from Dell):

          http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/optip…

The SFF is on pages 7 and 8.

          On Page 8, under connectors:

          For the Video card, you would plug into Item 6 PCI-e x16 Connector (SLOT1);
For additional Harddrives, you would plug into 8, 9 or 10, SATA 2 Connector (SATA0), (SATA1) or (SATA2).

Obviously check that the motherboard looks like the picture before proceeding.

EDIT: From a quick search online, there may be issues with airflow (fans might run a bit loud) and power supply (probably can't get to 100% of 1050Ti peak performance). On the other hand, this system will be about 100x better than your 550GT, and I'm honestly not sure if that's even an exaggeration.

  • Anyone knows a good seller of refurb dell that can use a 1050? buying a refurb dell is almost 300 and the card is 300 itself

      Look at highanddry's post.

And if the 1050ti costs too much, get a 1050 for $190.

Make sure you buy a low profile card like what people linked earlier. Some cards have taller and longer coolers and it won't fit inside the case very well.

GTX 1050 (2GB) is a decent card, but because of the lack of VRAM (you typically want 4GB) you'll be stuck playing with medium to low texture details.

You can use the desktop without the graphics card — it's a good price and you should buy it first and then think about what kind of GPU you want to put in later.
