eBay Seller Sends Wrong Order. Forced to Return The Item with Only a Partial Refund

I purchased three items from an ebay seller at the start of this month and he sent a completely different order with an invoice for someone else. I contacted him and he said they would just send me the right order. 3 weeks later, seller pretends he doesn't know what I'm talking about so I open a case.

After no response from the seller ebay steps in and opens a 'return case'. Then the seller gives me a refund for 1 out of 3 of the items.

I am under the impression that I now have to send the wrong order back at my own cost, and then open separate cases to hopefully get my money back. Am I obliged to send it back or should I just message the seller and tell him to arrange the shipping himself, as to not waste anymore of my time and money?

Should I just open a paypal claim against the seller and be done with it?

CC charge back. but then ebay might close your account.

    https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

Paypal can cover the cost of shipping back, 8 times a year and up to $45 reimbursement each time.

If the order isn't yours, then technically it's SNAD (Significantly not as described) in which case you should open a PP case and then select "full Refund" as one of the options

    • No, Paypal will only do so if you activate before you buy your stuff..

Open the other two ebay cases.

Send the clown boxes full of old newspapers with tracking and show ebay the proof.

Why was this a "return case"? It should have been "Items not as described"…. no?

    • Items not received.

The OP has not received their order, they received another package sure but its not their order.

Don't do that because the seller will have valid tracking to show eBay. Then you will lose your claim

        • If OP has not received his/her order then id assume the tracking will show as parcel not delivered still?
Edit: Nevermind mis-read! Shipping label is still under OP's name.

        • @xanit: yep ebay has a record of my receiving the wrong order

  • Not sure if its helpful but seller sent me the wrong item, I was lucky they refunded me through eBay no problems, but then they started asking for it to be delivered back (to the UK), cost me 26 dollars to deliver with shipping but used the receipt (need a photo of the receipt and the item with address on it) to recover what I paid for the shipping, took a few days but paypal came through and I ended up with no loss to me.

Just for future reference, if they want it returned, it's their responsibility to pay for it (i.e. send you a paid shipping label).

      • Oh thanks for letting me know, I always wondered about this to be honest.

    • that's good to know, i hope i can get it solved through paypal in a similar fashion

  • Definitely escalate with eBay as an Items not as described as HighAndDry mentioned.

I had to do this recently when Spotlight only delivered 1 out of 2 items then ignored my messages (via eBay) asking them to send the other item. After a week, eBay stepped in and refunded me immediately. Feels like their customer service has stepped up since Amazon entered the fray

  • Contact eBat customer service, better use their live chat as after chat over they will email you chat transcript for records. Ask them to pay for shipping back as seller is non responsive.
