Airport GST and Tax Back on Imported Products

Hello All,

I am planning to travel overseas soon and was wondering if the below is possible?

If I make a purchase online costing more than $1000 and pay the tax and duties on arrival, can I claim the GST and tax back at the airport ?

Cheers!

Under the TRS you mean? I'm not sure. Theoretically you should be able to, but one of the requirements of the TRS is that the seller have an ABN. If the overseas seller has one, then sure, but I somewhat doubt they would.

Why not just get the item delivered to wherever you are planning to take it? Then you don't have to pay the GST in the first place.

  • I doubt it.

Where is the item coming from and where are you going ? Get it shipped direct

  • What you're talking about is a tax drawback and you'll probably need a Customs broker to do it (alone costs a little bit of money which eats into your potential refund).
