Mechanic Scratched up Engine Cover

I had some work done by a mechanic the other week and I've just noticed that they scratched up my engine cover. I know they weren't there before hand as I detailed it before it went in. I'm going to send through some pics tomorrow and see what the mechanic has to say.
Anyone gone through anything similar? What was your outcome?
I'm expecting a pretty much "Too bad, how sad" response… :( If so, too bad, how sad for him though, as I won't be going there for any further work, and I only go in for big jobs.

Got a scratched up rim from dealership during a tyre change. (Had a nail through the sidewall of a week old car. The only placed that had ready stock of that tyre as a single.)

Made the dealership change the rim. I said I may have photos of the wheel moments before they took my car in. Told them they can risk that I actually have photos or they can be honest.

They went with honesty and replaced it.

    • Hopefully the mechanic will do something similar. Sucks not just because my engine cover was scratched up, but also because I wanted a good mechanic.

  • Our mondeo was returned sans engine cover.

We said that it had one going in and they found one from a different model (higher trim) for us.

  • pictures or it didn't happen

Hey, come on! It’s OzB! We need a hastily cobbled together cut and paste photo edited in MS Paint before I will pass jusdgement

      • Correct……

Seems like OP is busy, so I went ahead and helped out.

@pegaxs: hahahahahaha gold!!! Bonus lemon pledge for you tonight!

  • Update?
Also, in which general suburb is the workshop, so I know to avoid (or seek out if it went well).
No a Coopers franchise by any chance?

    • Might want to also be careful of spilt milk and storms in teacups… putting a mechanic on your “don’t go to” list over a scratched engine cover… :D

      • Yeah, but if there's a careless attitude in that workshop, what else might they be stuffing up?
        In this town, I've had:
        * two "mechanics" overfill my engine oil. Enough to do damage had I left it.
        * a joker who didn't get the cam timing right after a belt change.
        * another who couldn't adjust a new accessory belt he fitted to quieten it. He bodged it with stick lube.
        * a tyre "specialist" franchisee who tried pocketing my aftermarket (not cheap) nuts by substituting with two odd sets!

If there's no decent mechanics around here, I need access to a hoist.

  • Close the bonnet, problem solved.

You forgot to add "on the mechanics head"…

      • That’s a bit harsh. Unless you have a show car that you display with he bonnet up, who cares if there is a scratch on the engine cover? If your suby wagon is a show car, then don’t leave it with anyone other than a 100% trusted mechanic who recognizes the level of care required for a show car.

      • Wanna go halvies in a hoist? We'd need a shed tho…
