Recommendations for a firm mattress

On the market for a firm mattress that is durable, reasonably high quality, ideal for back / side sleepers and reasonably priced $1000-1500.

I've heard Tempur mattresses are good but expensive. Are they the real deal or just marketing nonsense at exorbitant prices?

Please let me know any recommendations! Thanks

I've got an assured firm zzz. It's quite a firm mattress. Edge support is shit though.

Tempur is like any established premium brand. You are getting an above market average product but you will be paying a substantial amount more.

    Think Dyson, Bose…

    • Any similar products in terms of quality with better value proposition? Think xiaomi OnePlus etc

      • I wouldn't think Xiaomi as I don't expect my mattress to have a back door program for surveilence.

I have a technogel mattress, a little over a year old. It's a mid range competitor to Tempur and I thought it felt just as good. Guest mattress so that's all the feedback I have.

The problem with mattress selection is durability. What's the mattress going to feel like in 5 years. My everyday mattress is an underdog premium product but it is starting to feel like cheap crap at 4 years.

    • You can get firm version of Tempur mattress, but I found it get bit hot in summer nights.

  • [Regal Sleep Solutions Super Firm] (https://regalsleepsolutions.com.au/products/888-super-firm-m…)

It is advertised here for $1400 (Queen) but I did not pay more than about $1,100 and that included delivery and a pillow.

It is very firm. Edge support is great. Mine does not have the pillow top and therefore can be totally turned, flipped, rotated etc. I love it but my husband says it is like sleeping on a concrete plinth. On the other hand, his bed is like sleeping in a giant marshmallow. I guess the truth for both beds is in the middle

    • Thanks, what is edge support?

Having tried 5 of the box in a mattress companies, I can highly recommend the ecosa. $900 for a queen and a 100 night free trial. I'm a side sleeper and prefer a firm mattress.

EDIT: they've changed the design - they no longer use latex. It's probably just like the other cheap alternatives now.

  • Ecosa I would definitely rate as being firm. I've had one 6 months and would definitely recommend, though I can't say I've tried the other mattress in a box companies.

  • I had an ecosa but it was too firm and hot so I sent it back. I just got an ikea mattress that's pretty firm.

Ikea mattress have a 1 year "buyers remorse" warranty but you get only get store credit. You could send the mattress back just under 1 year and buy a new one then continue doing that.

    • I doubt you could keep doing it over and over…especially if you kept buying the same mattress?

yeah it wasn't really a serious suggestion.

But given they give you a gift card and it's a year between returning mattresses I reckon you would have a pretty good chance. The biggest hassle is getting the mattress back and forwards. Cost me $60 for delivery, although many people would be able to do it themselves.
