  • Depends what you are trying to do. Music in multiple rooms. Video with wireless speakers. Ability for different music in different rooms. How many people use the system? Tell us what you want to do and we can make a recommendation.

    • I didn't even consider all these possibilities… Was more thinking about just music in a single room, which is what Bluetooth speakers are generally used for, no? (given Bluetooth doesn't reach far enough for multiple rooms) But perhaps you could recommend the setup for each scenario…

  • too many cables

    wireless audio receiver .. logitech bluetooth ?
    needs audio cable + separate wall plug

    • Why Logitech? Aren't there cheaper generic versions on eBay? Or is Logitech's that much better?

      • it's the cheapest branded BT audio receiver

        you're free to try generic ebay ones

        • Will do; just bought one for $13.50 (while Logitech's run for $40 + S/H). Will keep you posted.

          @wisdomtooth:

          i got mine for $22 pickup from TGG halfprice deal last time

        • @phunkydude: Best I found is US$27.50 (~A$37) delivered to NSW on Amazon.

  • My rationale is that Bluetooth speakers have been hyped in the last few years, and are probaly being skimped on audio quality for the Bluetooth novelty, while good old wired speakers are just as good for a lower price, or better for the same price, and can easily be made wireless with a cheap Bluetooth receiver.

  • I think for more ideas you need to elaborate on what problem you’re trying to solve. If you’re just looking to send music via bluetooth to speakers then sure, a bluetooth speaker might be all you need. If you want a decent sound system to also run your home theatre - then look at a decent wired setup and add on a chromecast audio to give you that wireless flexibility.

  • Bluetooth receiver act as DAC, depending on your budget and media souce.

  • Wired everything, I love cables, and audio is always superior through cable.

    • Of course. The assumption is that wireless is required at some point in the chain.
