[NSW] 18 Hours Free Parking when You Ride Public Transport @ Park&Ride Carparks

250

Basically free parking for up to 18 hours at designated carparks after you complete a journey on your Opal card.

Simply drive into the carpark and park as normal. When you need to exit the carpark, just tap off with the Opal card (AFTER you have completed a train/bus/ferry journey with it).

Otherwise normally it's a ridiculous flat rate ($35 at Ashfield).

Transport Park&Ride is a trial designed to free-up more spaces at commuter car parks for those who want to travel on public transport.

Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport journey by tapping on and off using an accepted Opal card, then use that Opal card when you exit the car park.

Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks helps you connect more easily to bus, train and ferry services.

  • Brookvale
  • Dee Why

  • Be the holder of a valid Adult, Child/Youth, Gold Senior/Pensioner or Concession Opal card
  • Park in a dedicated Transport Park&Ride car park
  • Tap on and tap off with your Opal card to complete a trip on public transport
  • Use the same Opal card to tap out of the car park within 18 hours of entering

  • Tap on reversals (where an Opal card is tapped on and tapped off at the same location within 30 minutes, and has not been used to complete a trip) cannot be used to validate free parking at Transport Park&Ride car parks.
  • Where you exit a Transport Park&Ride car park within 20 minutes of entering, you will not be required to validate car park access with an Opal card and no parking fee will apply.
  • If you want to use any Transport Park&Ride car park more than once and qualify for free parking, you must allow a minimum of two hours between tap outs at the exit.
  • These conditions apply to all Transport Park&Ride car parks at all times.
  • Car park users will be charged a parking fee in line with commercial parking rates where Transport Park&Ride conditions are not met.
  • Some car parks use number plate recognition technology to record time of entry and exit.

Hang on, free parking for what used to be free parking next existing train stations?

    • I saw a free parking area literally transformed just by a boom gate on entrance. Thought government had sold off more public assets

  • I know there was very little chance of 18 hours free parking on brookvale before this offer. Most roads within a km of the mall are completely packed after 730am or so. If this helps make the spit bridge run better, sounds good.

Now they are not free parking places any more! You should use train to park your car there! Agree!

  • I noticed the sign at Ashfield always says the car park is full even when it's not.

    • It's to keep out the people who can read. :)

Actually lots of places have broken free places signs. They are often contradictory, e.g. total is Full, but individual floors have spaces. I distrust them.

soon to come to Kogarah as well !!

And then - if you vote in the Libs next year - SOLD SOLD SOLD - they'll sell these carparks off and you'll end up paying more.

    That's the LNP way

The libs are already in government… you do realise that the LNP have been the governing party of NSW since 2011… This initiative was introduced under the LNP govenment if you wanted to make this political.
