Free plastic bags: where are they now?

Now that the free bags have vanished from Coles and Woolworths what hath become of them?

Are they in landfill? Creeks? Developing countries?

I heard they got sent back to the supplier if they had unopened boxes of them

    • Cheers. Since there were so many I suppose they end up overseas?

Redcycle or taken by staff prior

    • I imagine Redcycle has never seen so many bags! I wonder if they received unopened boxes as per kerfuffle's comment.

Ironically, you can click and collect from Woolworths. :D

      • Best thing I've read today…absolutely hilarious!

    • Don't forget to get 10% off…

    • Gerry's alt ebay account.

  • But would they give you a free 15 cent bag to carry the box to your car

They get sent to states that haven't banned them yet.

  • Fish food. Big fish.

  • I have a decent stash of "non-reusable" bags for re-using.

  • Back to free bags at Coles.

    • Until the 29th

      • So what's with the whole kerfuffle about indefinite free bags? Did they backtrack on that as well?

Didn't know Trunp is also in charge of Coles…

Actually, in the event of an actual ban, I wonder if they would just instruct their cashiers to just give them out (without any fanfare), or make a stink about customers taking bags without paying.

        • Yeah they did; they’re now giving them out until the 29th instead of indefinitely
