Is this a good laptop: Lenovo Laptop 2 in 1 X1 Yoga 14" FHD Touch i5 256GB SSD 8GB LTE Win 10 Tablet

Hi all - looking for advice regarding the below laptop:

Lenovo Laptop 2 in 1 X1 Yoga 14" FHD Touch i5 256GB SSD 8GB LTE Win 10 Tablet

I am wondering if this is a good laptop (a) overall and (b) for the price of 1600?

After some tips, I don't know much about this stuff but I know I want a 2 in 1 with these specs minimum (I want a quick laptop at this price point).

Appreciate any tips on alternatives or arguments why I am better off waiting/picking something up for the budget.

Thanks in advance

What gen i5? If it's 8th gen and you are after a 4G 2 in 1, I'd say the price and specs are pretty decent.

From googleing "Lenovo Laptop 2 in 1 X1 Yoga 14" FHD Touch i5 256GB SSD 8GB LTE Win 10 Tablet", I think it has 6th gen i5, which not worth for this price.

      • Yea I had a feeling, I don't know why I didn't search it up myself. You're right 6th gen is not worth it at all.

  • Thanks guys - what is the difference between generations?

Tell us what you use it for and what feature do you want, also your budget, specs means nothing for you as you don't know what they can do.

Every year Intel updates their processors, and in turn the computer companies update their computers with the new processors. Most of the time it's usually minor upgrade, however the newest one (8th generation) is a decent upgrade over last year's 7th generation processors.

That being said the 7th generation laptops and 2 in 1's are still very good in terms of performance and you usually find better deals on them because companies are trying to run out stock.

However it appears the computer you have listed is a 6th generation computer, which is definitely not worth it for 1600.

As Chenrenchun mentioned, tell us what exactly you are after, as in you want to have 4G, you want to have a touch screen, you want the laptop to turn onto a tablet, you want pen (stylus) support etc and what it is you want to do with it, eg: Use it to write notes, or just document editing and browsing the Web etc.

And yes mention you budget and we will try to provide the right computer for you.

  • Wow.. First off thanks for the time and effort guys, much appreciated!!

Now, for specs.. In a nutshell, I want something that is fast enough and big enough (memory) to not annoy me when using it. Having said that I won't be using extensive programs, but still I would like to, if I choose to go back to photoshop or a dj program, be able to do so with ease.

I came up with some minimum specs: at least i5, 8GB and 256GB
And the budget is $1500 max although happy for some leeway if the product is worth it.

Oh, and I will want to play the odd game here amd there, no demanding games or anything, but some strategy games would be nice to play.

Has to be a 2 in 1 and not a laptop only.

    Thanks again in advance (really)

Nah you don't have to thank us, it's all good, we are a community here to help!

      Nice, so you are after:

      • 2 in 1
      • i5
      • 8GB
      • 256GB
      • Around 1500.

I fully agree with you here and I myself have picked up such a 2 in 1 just a few months ago for Uni, however for around 2000 (More on that later).

So I'll start with the best value for money 2 in 1 (Which I also recently recommend to a friend, she had very similar specs requirement to you)

      Dell Inspiron 13 5000 13.3" 2-in-1 Laptop [i5] for 1103.30 at JB HiFi

This is honestly the best value 2 in 1 I can find, and it's even on sale ATM. It has all the above mentioned specs. The only downside I can see, is perhaps the screen might be too small for you at 13.3? Unfortunately most of the recent 2 in 1's are all coming in at 13.3 inches.

The second one I would recommend:

Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga for 1,299.00 at Lenovo

It's really almost exactly the same laptop, with the same specs and screen size as the dell above. My family has had a few Lenovo's and they have all loved them. They are well built machines. Many of my friends have had Dell's, they are fine machines too, so really the only difference here is the price and brand between the two.

Now moving onto the one I got:

Microsoft Surface Pro i5 256GB Platinum Type Cover Bundle for 1799 at JB HiFi

Now yes, this is a little out of your budget, but I thought I would include it anyway. I myself got one of these in March and I absolutely adore it. I'm not much of a laptop guy, I prefer desktops but I had to get something for Uni and the Surface Pro is something that doesn't feel as restricted as a laptop. It's much lighter than the other 2 in 1's, has a much better screen and a far superior writing experience (Note you need to buy the Surface Pen separately for about 125). And you can also just hold it as a tablet without the keyboard as it detaches.

Now the downsides of the Surface Pro I would say are:
      - It's more expensive.
      - It's running the 7th generation Intel processors.
      - You might not like the form factor as it's not as sturdy in terms of lap usage vs a fully one piece 2 in 1. However that being said, it's still usable in the lap.
      - The keyboard takes a little getting used too.

      The Benefits are:
      - It's built and feels more premium than the other two.
      - If you do decide to start writing on your touch screen, the Surface Pen offers a far superior writing experience than the other two (However you do need to buy the pen as it's not included and runs around 125)
      - Because it's got a detectable keyboard, you can actually not worry about spilling drinks etc onto it, if you do happen to ruin it, you can just buy another one for 250 and use that with your surface instead!

I would recommend that you head over to a JB HiFi and have a play with the above mentioned 2 in 1's. They have the Dell and the Surface, they might not have the exact Lenovo, however they should have something similar for you to have a play with.

      Hope this helps.

      Take Care.

Hey man thanks - and great points!I didnt think of the keyboard water thing until you mentioned it!

I will go to JB Hi Fi to check them out!

I nearly bought one during the surface eofy sale but there were too many to choose from and i havent done as much research then

          All good,

Yea definitely check out the devices in person to get a feel for them. I'm sure you'll love the Surface if you do end up getting one. They are a bit pricey but personally for me MS nailed the hardware. And its interesting how the modular nature of the Surface changes things like being able to replace the keyboards!

Otherwise, I'm sure the other two are great devices too!

Let us know how you go!
