Canon MX870 $148 from OfficeMax

270

Saw this deal online, which works out to $163 delivered. It's a great printer with a lot of the stuff I need, like duplex printing. I didn't get it from Office Max. I walked into Officeworks Parramatta and they price matched the delivered price and beat it by 5%. So I bought it for $153. Great considering many places sell it for more than $230.

    .

  • Excellent price! Note it is EOL model and will be replaced soon by MG series.

      which is better.

      Is that a question?

  • could you upload your receipt?
    thanks

The unit comes with it's own scanner - so no excuses! heheh

  • I got this printer from retravision about 4 months ago for $178. They matched officeworks price to replace my old printer under replacement warranty. For sure Officeworks had it for $178 for months now. I can't imagine why any one would have paid $230.

However printer is really good, excellent quality. Also you would find cheap 6 ink cartridges for $22 delivered from ebay (those cartridges also are in very good quality)

  • I just bought mine today from JB HIFI for $179 but got the deal posted on here last week with ink for 50% off. anyway, seems like a good printer and will test it out tomorrow and post my feedback on the quality.

oh I checked with cartridge world today and they are selling it for $340. That doesn't sound right

    • Actually that does sound right for Cartridge World. They are very expensive for printers.

      • …and everything else too! ;)

  • Nice. I would recommend you buy a CISS for it once the factory ink runs out.

I've had my Canon R350 on one of these for 5 years and it's still going strong (had to buy one new set of ink bottles in that time)

    • This printer uses 'chipped' ink cartridges. I suspect whether refilling like this would work. Let us know if you have tried this method for chipped cartridges.

      • Read the link from grounded

        • Ah oki. However if you don't need to go through this procedure and need a 'plug and play' version, then $3.65 per cartridge delivered still a good option. If you search you might find cheaper than this too from ebay. Good thing with this, each cartridge is sealed and exp is marked 08/2012. Good option if you not a heavy user…

      • $12 delivered on ebay gets you a chip resetter anyway…it's a complete non-issue! :)

        • If you were using a CISS system then there is not much of a need for the ink monitoring as the printer will monitor the ink as it would with a normal cartridge.

        • @anthony, yes that is true. However, speaking as someone who has an older MP830 with a CIS in it that hardly gets used, if you're not printing heaps then to be truthful I wouldn't bother with CIS. Just get generic carts/refills & a chip resetter.

Honestly, if you're printing enough to warrant a CIS and looking to buy a new printer anyway, then you really should just pony up the cash for a cheap laser, they're very modestly priced nowadays! ;)

wanted this as an upgrade to my MP830…. but it doesnt do CD printing :(.
mind you, they chuck in Wifi Ethernet… but me thinks i'll wait for the new crop to come out.

very tempting at this price though, plus vote!

also, check out CNet review here: http://reviews.cnet.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mx…

overall positive, but slow first page print. (and no CD/DVD printing)

    • +1

yeah want 1 with Disc printing too

    • How important is Disc printing tho, I have disc printing on my unit, and used it like twice, no one burns dvd's or cds anymore.

      • +1

disc printing is a must for me as I want to upgrade from canon i950

  • How does this compare to Epson 630 $99? very similar features (no duplex)

I think it also has duplex SCANNING, which is rare for a machine of this price.

I personally have a MX850 and am very happy with it, except with the scanning which requires non-empty ink tanks. Otherwise, excellent machine.

    • I bought this last time round with the HT deal, duplex scanning doesn't work very well for me. If pages have folds or creases in them, it will jam up the scanner.

      • top down folds, or side folds?

      • I have an MX860, and very happy with it as well. The 860 has duplex scanning and printing, so I would assume the 870 as it as well. The duplex scanner is ok, it does sometimes get jammed while doing large scan jobs and that's with undamaged pages. I tried crumpling up a page and flattening it before putting it through the paper feeder, unfortunately it jammed right away.

+1 for the MX850!! It was the last of the Canon multifunctions to have Duplex Scanning, Duplex Printing and CD/DVD printing in the same unit. None of the new duplex scanners do CD's as well and I don't want to fill my office with extra printers… I wish Canon would bring out a true successor to the MX850.

  • Excellent deal… I got one about a year ago for $245. It's never missed a beat printing, scanning or copying. Love the network connectivity (wifi or wired).

  • MX870 is a real nice printer. Prints pretty fast, good connectivity with Linux. Pretty awesome that it has ADF and prints double side automatically :).

Only disadvantage is that it eats through ink cartridges, but what can you expect from a home printer.

  • Scored this for $140.60 at Officeworks, the guy was half asleep and did 5% off $148 (instead of going by the letter of their policy which would account for the delivery from online stores.)

    • Scored this for $140.60 at Officeworks, the guy was half asleep and did 5% off $148

LOL, that's what my local OW does as well, they disregard the shipping cost, they just look at the selling cost and they also do not ring up to see if there is stock or not

  • can anyone post the receipt pleaasseeee for $140.60????

    • +1

Dude, just print out the page & take that down to Orificeworks if you wanna battle them for $8…personally, I'd just buy it from Officemax coz they're the guys being decent enough to offer it at a great price in the first place! ;)

      • personally, I’d just buy it from Officemax coz they’re the guys being decent enough to offer it at a great price in the first place! ;)

        Exactly.
If everyone price matches at officeworks then other stores have less of a reason to offer cheap prices

        • There are advantages buying it from OW such as easier warranty claim/DOA procedure and OW also offer a cheap extended warranty service + you can get it in your hands right now. I would also rather not have some careless courier person throwing my printer around.

        • +1

I would also rather not have some careless courier person throwing my printer around.

That same careless courier delivered your printer to officeworks and they didn't break it

        • You could be right, but more likely it was delivered on a shrink-wrapped pallet—difficult to throw those around. Just like when I walk/drive past Umart Milton everyday I see pallets of freshly delivered stock sitting outside that are shrink wrapped and have a security seal around them.

        • How did you (conceptually) get this conversation from OW to Umart camelgrass??? :p

        • I thought most large-volume retailers would have the majority of their stock delivered on pallets. For the sake of both efficiency and security.
